Without having the lens in front of me, I'd shave the guards so they are at or below the level of the rear element...don't think it takes much...
As the new line of m4/3 cameras crop up for the holidays, there may be some interested in using the Contax G 28mm lens. Here's a quick visual demo on how that's done.

Good luck with a cheap adaptors, the small wheel models had many users comment throughout the thread about the difficulty of reaching focus.I may have missed this in the thread but it seems no one discusses the "cheaper" adapters that can be had for ca. $45. Can anyone who has tried one or more of these discuss their experiences. I love my Contax G1 and G2 and lenses and would enjoy using them again but am not convinced how much I'd use them so I wanted to test what quality I can get on the Panny GF1 and how much I"m likely to use them. The 2x focal length factor is one of the other problems I question along with the IQ. If this has been discussed in another thread, I'd appreciate being directed there.
Thanks.
I have a Kipon (smaller wheel version) and recently picked up a Metabones. The Metabones is easier to use, but I've used the Kipon for several months and it works fine. I haven't listed it here, but since i only have one Contax G lens I have been considering selling the Kipon.Good luck with a cheap adaptors, the small wheel models had many users comment throughout the thread about the difficulty of reaching focus.
I have used both the Metabones and the Monza adaptors with the Contax G Carl Zeiss Planar T* 45/2 and Sonnar T* 90/2.8.
You can view pictures taken with the GF1 using both of these adaptors at:

For the 90/2.8: http://www.flickr.com/photos/26672618@N03/sets/72157624067056496/
Both of these lenses are wonderful and a great combo with the GF1.
Good luck with your decision.
Life is Grand!
