Off Camera Flash

Hi everyone,

I have a few questions regarding off-camera flash systems for my GF1/GH1 cameras.

- I understand the Cactus V4 has issues with Panasonic CMOS censor
- Have you used any other (cheapish) wireless transmitter/receiver sets that work?
- What is the maximum of speed the wireless flashes can sync? 1/500?
- How well do the Cheap Light triggering modules work ? max sync speed?

I use a Vivitar 285HV as my off-camera flash (you can find them used off eBay for much less than the Amazon price), with a PT-04 trigger/remote that I also got off eBay (link). I haven't seen any effects on the image with my GH1 from using these. The max speed sync speed is 1/160.

As a note of caution if you go with an older flash unit, make sure you check the voltage on the unit before you think about attaching it directly to your camera hot shoe. I think the hot shoe is rated for 12V, and some of the older strobes put out ~300V, which I'd guess would fry your camera. The 285HV should be OK, but check anyway. Here's a link for the 285HV.

Thanks for the 285HV info. The Amazon link I mentioned before, says it's a Olympus TTL compatible unit. I wounder if that's just... hmmmm... not exactly the truth.

Would the PT-04 triggers made for Canon work on our Panasonics?

I really want to get the Strobist kit (http://www.mpex.com/page.htm?PG=STROBIST1XKITS), but they've been out of the LP120 flash for a while now.

I believe they're all the same. They normally mention the different camera brands for eBay search engine purposes. Look for the generic triggers/receivers on the lilyrst eBay store to make sure hey're compatible. You can also ask them - I corresponded with them and they're very friendly.
