You guys are killing me! I only came here via a link out of curiosity. This lens was a small dot on my radar until I saw the images and now I may have to buy one.

Some really excellent work here - congratulations. I'd always assumed it would be impossible to take any serious bird or wildlife photos as I've never been prepared to carry or pay for the immense lenses usually involved; now I have some hope it might eventually be possible to get some reasonable results. Thanks, I think!

Glenn - that first jet shot is pretty cool.

With faster shutter speeds and good support the 300 end of this lens is quite respectable. I've only had mine for a weekend but been quite pleased.

First shot here is a loon just starting a dive for fish - not a great shot but funny timing.

Glenn - with the jets as well as your last puffin shot (flying away), were you using AFC to focus?

In my limited time with the G3 its continuous focusing algorithm doesn't seem to be able to predict the focus of an object moving towards or away from the camera.

I agree. Some really pleasing stuff.

Love the shot of the Red Arrows taking off.

Yes AFC and burst mode, it doesn't always work, and towards and away are the most testing for contrast detection systems. Keep at it and you'll get some good results I'm sure.

This thread also inspired me to buy the 100-300. I thought I'd share a few images.

I lucked out on a fishing trip in Cabo San Lucas in early April. A pod of Humpback's decided to put on a show just for us.

These aren't the greatest images, but considering I was on the top level of the boat being bobbed up and down, I was quite happy to capture anything at all. These were all taken at the long range of the lens, probably at 300. The extra length and the image stabilization made all the difference from getting, or not getting a shot.

These are a two captures from the deck of my house. We get some awesome aerial combat action from Redtail's being escorted away from other birds nest, in this instance from a black bird. I just pointed the GH2 toward the sky and got lucky, as they were pretty far up there and moving quickly.

Hi everyone,

A couple of Sparrow shots with the G3 and 100-300 shot in ETC S zoom mode @ 1212mm EFL.

Tweaked, cropped and resized for the web.

I agree with the others that the first Red Arrows shot is phenomenal. But I also like the two recent sparrow shots: lovely detail.
