GX1!!! What say you GF1 lovers?

Disappointed until I find out the specs. Looks little more than a retread of the GF-1. I cant' quite work out what the body is made of but it looks like plastic.

I think the mobile01 pictures have disappeared but you can still see them here

I think it looks really nice. Similar size to the GF3, but with hot shoe, can use an external EVF, better controls and grip. It's supposed to have the same sensor as the G3, with super-fast AF, and ISO12800. From the same rumors site, it has a metal body.

Considering some of the software improvements since the GF1, plus the touch screen, stereo mic, "bounce" flash, smaller size, and new sensor, I think it will be a worthy successor. A lot of people seem to be complaining about a lack of a built-in EVF, but I don't really understand the gripe--just get the G3. I'd like to see a new higher-quality EVF offered though.

It looks similar to the GF1 without the drive dial. It also seem to have an add-on grip like the EP3. If it has a similar or better sensor than the G3 and is under $500 body only, I would most likely get it.

I'ld prefer a Zorki and will keep my GF1 and my LX3. Nothing really new or revolutionnary,
just a way to make more money.

After I've moved to the NEX system I was so happy with high iso and latitude that I thought I would never want to go back, but Sony keeps coming up with large and bulky lenses, so I keep waiting for the Micro 4/3 system to come up with a sensor that can match the NEX's. After looking at the GX1 samples I'm really not impressed...which is a bummer because I really like the arsenal of available micro 4/3 lenses.

GX1 has what is the best available current generation m43 sensor. You are not likely to get a better m43 sensor for a while until Panasonic develops its next generation of sensors. You can't change the fact that m43 sensors are smaller than NEX so they are likely going to stay behind NEX. Sure they will improve, but so will NEX and the gap will remain there.

Nevertheless G3 / GH2 sensors are pretty good from what I have seen and if GX1 has the same sensor then it should be pretty good as well. GX1 is not revolutionary but it fills the void where we did not have a compact m43 camera with the better m43 sensor and better controls than GF2 / GF3.

looks to me like they got it so right with the (G1 and then) GF1 that they've gone back to that again.

I think if you were averse to the G3 because of the EVF then this is a good camera. I like my G3 and don't want to go back to an external finder.

I do think that Panasonic has failed to break any new ground with the camera. For instance adding focus peaking or something similar.

I am pretty disappointed too. A specialist retailer in London had hinted that I would want to save my money for the new camera which would be very desirable. This is not it. Yes, a worthy successor to the GF-1 but I was expecting the 'pro'-build camera that there have been rumours about for some time and all we have here is what appears to be a desperate attempt to compete with Sony's new mirrorless offerings.

If they really want to differentiate themselves then I'd offer this camera with the new Leica 25/1.4 as a bundle which would give it a competitive edge.

I was waiting for this announcement before I wanted to decide to get the 25 1.4, since I hoped the new camera would be bundled with that lens. I guess now I have to decide to get the 25 standalone or not.

It is a fantastic lens - on any m43rds camera.

I was afraid you were going to say that. And in fact, I've made up my mind already, especially since the older version was one of my favorites FourThirds lens. I just got the E-P3 and 12f2 (to replace an E-P2 and 9-18) and the 25 1.4 (definitely an addition to the 20 1.7) and maybe the 45 1.8 (don't know yet if it will replace the PL45 2.8 macro, or be an addition, or won't be added) will be next. Resistance is futile.

I'm quite interested in the 45/1.8 but I wouldn't ever sell my 45/2.8. Quite extraordinary draw to that lens. I think there is a case for owing both.

Thinking of selling my 7-14 and getting the 12/2 just because of the size and aperture. Problem is, I know I would live to regret losing the 7-14.

Hi Terry
focus peaking is such a no-brainer . . . if you want to use 3rd party lenses (or manual focus) it's more important than anything else . . . why aren't they doing it . . .or Olympus for that matter

an excellent concept, hadn't heard of or thought of this before, but I'd willingly swap that on screen histogram for a similar sized focus peek on the focus point.

while at it, I'd love to be able to elongate and lower the height of the panasonic histogram too

wouldn't it be nice if we had cameras with open UI development where developers could work with it as they do iPhone and Android

:)
