OMD focusing

The OMD works quite well for the things I use it (everything where I want AF/ zoom options/tele/weatherproof).
There is just one thing which gets in my way sometimes - the large focus point.
As soon as one wants a little shallower DOF it seems unpredictable. You cant focus on an eye, just on a face. Are there any tricks/workarounds other than avoiding shallow DOF for such subjects? (I mainly realize it when I use fast primes)
thanks for any help

Some people say face detection set to nearest eye works pretty well. For me the obvious "work-around" is manual focusing with enlarged view. I think it works fine but I know not everybody like to work that way.
