I knew these trees as Book Pines while growing up in rural South Australia in the ’50s and ’60s (the branches and “leaves” are arrayed vertically, allowing you to “open the page”). The original is on MLKSHK and there has been some debate going on there.

    The new lens

Nothing amazing—it’s a 4/3 lens that requires an adapter to use with m4/3. Unfortunately it hunts FAR MORE on my Lumix G3 than does my 4/3 Olympus 14–54—perhaps three times as much to-and-froing.

Some good things: it has a metal lens mount, unlike successor lenses, and it is faster at all focal lengths by about half-a-stop. All for under $100 used, and in superb condition.

    A decent fill-in until I can afford the 14x-as-much Zuiko 40–150 f2.8.

    Samples will follow.

    Waiting for a bus

Waiting for a bus, testing the new telephoto zoom. Decent results, but not as good as the excellent blueband 14–54 Zuiko. Image editors are the great equalisers (in this case, Capture One and Pixelmator).

Has pincushion distortion that is impossible to fix in C1—I’ll probably be using Photoshop to correct output from this lens.

That's too hot for comfort, I'd say.
OTOH, back in '83 I stayed for six months near Pietersburg in South Africa.
On arrival it was 42 - 44C in the shade. Still, could be worse ...
Today we had a meagre 9C and a cold wind blowing, brrr ... No pictures.

    Kind regards.

Bart, you've done it. I've just put in an order for the 40-150 PRO with 1.4TC at my favorite Brick and Mortar shop. Your images did not help the argument my wallet made. Good stuff. I'm informed that I'll have to wait in line a bit so please keep teasing me with your images.

    Hi Bart,

Thanks for the gorgeous images. Terrific shots.
I hadn't planned on buying that lens now - but it will be delivered to my house tomorrow. The 1.4x tele-converter is supposed to show up 2 days later.

I recently got myself the E-M1 and a "new" lens, a KENKO 45/4.5 Soft, in Nikon F fit, easily adapted to µ4/3

This is SWMBO, skyping with the family on Christmas Eve ...

She's wearing her uniform as a volunteer crewmember on the Israeli emergency ambulance service, about to go out on her first day of service. She had to pass three weeks of basic medicine, first aid and first responder course with the actual equipment they use, plus have a bunch of shots, and then be chosen among those applying. They send out an experienced driver plus two sturdy teenagers on most calls (at least on weekends). The kids also go out in the mobile ER on occasion, but only with senior paramedics present. They are NOT sent to explosions and terrorist incident cleanups, since those often present the danger of a second bomb, intended to catch the responders.

The red cross in our country is a red "star of David" aka "shield of David," or Magen David Adom.

    Anyway, I'm proud.

Cold... but nice. The EM1 and 12-40 are in, next in line is the 75, then the waiting for the 40-150 continues.

That 11-22 used to be my favorite in the 43 days. A great lens!

It’s only a measly 3mm shorter than my 14–54 [adapted with MMF3] but the increase in coverage is enough to make a difference.

The owner also has a Zuiko 12–40, and rightly questioned the need to retain both lenses, so I will ask him to part with the 11–22 in the new year. I was there to assess the focus speed of his mark 1 50–200; all the lenses I tried focused quite acceptably on my Lumix G3, except for my recently-acquired 40–150 f3.5–f4.5, which barks loudly in the focusing department.

    It’s all fun!
