I thought there was some rule against posting photographer's porno on this site. :)

Yeah...I'll second that. Gorgeous lens.

What are your thoughts about it on the G1. Bulky or OK ?
Hi Terry, It definitely handles differently than an M lens or kit lens on the G1, but I don't find it too bulky. You have to support the camera by grasping the lens near the adapter between your thumb and index finger and then let your other fingers form a cup around the lens barrel. Right hand operates the buttons and shutter as usual but you don't need to grasp the camera very tightly as all of the support is in the left hand. Actually quite comfortable and solid when shooting handheld. Autofocus motor is a bit loud, but works well and is precise. I also like the ability to adjust focus manually when in autofocus mode just by turning the focus ring which kicks the camera into magnified focus mode (if you keep shutter button half pressed). Face detection also seems to work well with this lens.

Carl

Thanks John and peter. Bill Algood's head shots with the 25 summilux helped convince that this would be a very good portrait lens.

I think with the articulating LCD the G1 makes a very good portrait camera. It's almost like a modern day twin lens reflex in that you can keep an eye on the subject while keeping an eye on the 'electronic' ground glass.

Wow Carl. Your shots, along with Bill Algood's shots, remind me why I bought my Pentax 31 ltd. I have been so down on the size of my Pentax kit, which is why I have been considering the G1. Maybe I should just go take some pictures... :)

Brian,

I don't know if it's me but I think your 14-35mm totally blows away the 11-22. Good shots though.

Scho...the 25mm is a winner too.

Peter
Hi Peter, I'm surprised you can tell at this size - but yes, the 14-35 blows just about everything away in terms of pixel level sharpness... plenty of scope for even better sensors as 4/3rds and m4/3rds takes off in popularity.

Kind Regards

Brian

Hi Peter, I had the same debate and lost :D Did I mention how well crafted this lens is and how nice it feels balanced in the left hand when shooting handheld? Yes, it is heavy (1 lb) but not at all uncomfortable to shoot on the G1 once you figure out how to hold it properly. Razor sharp and creamy smooth bokeh with this piece of glass.

Carl

Carl, is the aperture ring on the lens fully operative with the G1? I see you have it on A; is that because you use the camera´s setting wheel for it?

I´d be (if possible) even more tempted if I could actually set the aperture on the lens for manual or aperture priority shooting, just like I do with my trusty Digilux 2 (back with a new sensor yesterday....).

Per, Yes, you can either use the A setting on the ring and then use the wheel on the camera to set aperture or do it manually with the aperture ring on the camera.

Well... Swapped my L1 with kit lens with a G1. Kept my R to 4/3 adapter, 25 lux with latest firmware and ordered the DMW-MA1. When the adaptor comes on Monday, I can use the 25mm and my R lens.... next comes the M & LTM adapter. I will eventually end up with adapters costing more than the G1 :) ... which is still cheaper than another M8.

Carl... any words of advise on G1 settings for the 25 lux?

Any samples of R lens on the G1 to drool on until my adapter shows up?

Robert.

Robert, I've only had the lens for one day, but my settings are as follows. Aperture priority mode, AFS, AF+MF ON, MF Assist ON.

This may not be the place to ask this question, but could someone explain what people mean when they talk about "pixel level sharpness"?

By definition, a pixel is a single element, so how can one pixel be sharper than another?

I think, they just mean at the so called pixel peeping level of 100% the image appears very sharp, hence the phrase.
