Re: Fun with 4/3rds cameras/ Image Thread

Fun with GH2 and Canon FDn 50mm f/1.4.

My GH2 and Canon 50/1.4 were all set up for some product shots I was doing, so at the end of the session I decided to make an image of this LX5 I recently got with the wide angle conversion lens. Canon FDn 50/1.4 on the GH2, set at f/8.

I think the Canon FDn 50/1.4 is a great choice as an adapted lens for m4/3, especially for selective focus images (which this isn't). They're readily available, not expensive, and perform very well.

As for the LX5... I bought mine to replace my recently sold G9 and ZS3... to fill the role of a "grab n run" camera, something smaller, lighter, and more versatile (24-90mm equiv. lens f/2.0-3.3), in a smaller form factor than m4/3. I think the LX5 is a great choice. The wide angle lens does negate this size advantage, but is fun to have available... yields 18mm equivalent field of view. Most of my imaging tasks will go to the m4/3 and FF gear, but the LX5 can fill in here and there where appropriate.

    Nice portraits, Ron.

Every time I take one of the express boats up or down the Chao Praya river, I'm hanging out on the side, fighting engine vibrations and waves trying to get at least one sharp photo. This is from last night.

Ron... nice work with that lens! Beautiful family you have, too.

Jorgen... your photo opportunities never cease to amaze me. And of course, you make wonderful images with that Zeiss 85/1.4.

I recently picked up a "like new" Canon FDn 135mm f/2.8 and decided to play a little with it today... combined with the new Silver Efex Pro 2 plug in. My constant companion, Harley, is always happy to pose for me when no one else will. ;-)

Re: Fun with 4/3rds cameras/ Image Thread

Thanks for your remarks, marlof. The background in this image is a white birch grove on my property which was a considerable distance away. The 270mm FOV of this lens really compressed that long distance quite dramatically.

    Beautiful panorama, Ralf.

If I should make a suggestion, it would be to show a little bit more of that beautiful, blue sky and less of the foreground before the water.

Jorgen, you caught the moment. I like how his right foot is exactly in the middle of the railroad, and how his arms and left leg demonstrate the movement.

I try to be as little a gearhead as possible, but those 85 1.4 images continuously make me think 'I got to get me one of those'. Thing is, I know I'd better shop in the vision department, and try harder with the stuff I do have.

    A well captured moment Woody.

I just couldn't resist adding what the "interaction" was:

"Well, the thing is; I don't need to spend $2000 on this when the inside of my garage looks the same really".

    Very nice cafe photo, Raist.

Here's one from a concert last night. The most terrible lighting imaginable, but the music was fantastic.

    Woody,
I don't know if it's the lens, the tulips or the photographer, but the rendering is excellent, in focus as well as out of. Now I wonder what's in the glass...

A good single malt - I was a guest and really didn't note which one. The ice is out of character but this is before dinner - I wouldn't have ice after dinner.

Really nice image, Woody. I'm a big fan of the GH2 and the 20 as well. (OK, scotches too!)

That was what I thought. I was wondering about the ice, but I do that often myself, even with the favourite Islay malts, and particularly if it's early and hot.
    I don't care what gear I have.

I've yet to try the scotches (blends or singles) on ice. I always take mine neat. Just got a bottle of Bowmore 12 yr. Love that smokey flavor and the medicinal qualities of the Islays are growing on me. The Islays are not necessarily a daily choice for me though... JW Black Label for that. Jorgen... I'm going to have to try a little ice now!
