Fun with 4/3rds cameras/ Image Thread

The shot below was taken with the GH2 and the Leica 25mm Summilux. 1/50s at f/1.4 ISO 1600 handheld... in the rain... getting soaked. The front of the building is illuminated by a single street light which I believe to be sodium vapor.

A friend and I got up at 4:45am to wait for the dawn and the blue minutes before sunrise while in Shreveport, Louisiana this weekend. The weather was rainy and really not all that conducive to photography but the whole trip to Shreveport was for photography of old buildings, factories, rail yards, Etc... so there was no way I wasn't not going to get the shots I wanted... rain or no rain. I did worry about the GH2 since it is not weather sealed but it seems to have pulled through ok... Me? I got totally soaked and had to change clothes.

Since buying the GH2 I have used it very little but decided to use it over the weekend along with the 7-14mm and the 25mm. The 25mm, at f/1.4, is the fastest lens I have for the MFT gear I own... I was not disappointed with the results even at ISO 1600.

This is the Arlington Hotel in downtown Shreveport, Louisiana. It has been abandoned for years and is open to anyone who decides to venture inside. Locals say it's haunted. It's a pretty scary place on a number of levels. Ghosts did not worry me as much as the living who inhabit the old hotel.

I photographed the exterior extensively and then decided to venture inside.. it was not a wise choice. The hotel is used by the homeless and drug users. The interior is in total disarray and the stench is overwhelming. The current inhabitants relieve themselves when and wherever they please.

I was scared of stepping on needles as I was only wearing tennis shoes.. so my journey inside was very brief and not very extensive... I could hear someone stirring inside while I was in the entry of the hotel. I made my retreat... better to leave it to those who call it home. This was all taking place before sunrise.. all the more reason to enjoy this old hotel from out outside.

From what I read about the hotel it has been abandoned since the 1950s. The owner lives in California and has no desire to sell it to the city.. and so it slowly wastes away. It's a pity as it has so much character and quite a bit of history. Though it can't compare to the shiny hotels of the Casinos along the riverfront it has an appeal all its own. Glad I was able to see it in person before it one day disappears.

Jim, great photo and sad story.

Last week was the time for Bang Saen Speed Week, the 2011 edition, postponed from November last year due to flooding. To give some relief to a world that apparently suffers from a severe cap shortage, the good people from Pizza Company and Liqui Moly handed out a truckload for free.

GH1 with Pana 7-14 @ 7mm and f/7.1

And then there was this tourist who had hired a bicycle and thought it was ok to say yes to one kid

Decisive moment! Well spotted.

BTW, always nice to spot other L1 shooters. Still a lovely camera.

I'm relatively new to the Micro 4/3's world and I am lovin' it. :)
This image was taken with my new Olympus E-P3; Olympus 12mm / F2 lens and worked up a little in LR3. Thanks for looking.

Thanks for comment, regarding DR - yes.
I was impressed, when I came back from my friend, who was taking some pictures together with me at the see with his Sigma, afterwards he showed me what can he do in post processing...

Thanks for looking
Tom, thanks for sharing ;)

One idea comes to my mind, as an experiment - I would try to crop that photo in 16:9.
Just idea.
