Making G1 accept non Panasonic lenses

There are many posts here showing results with a Leica M lens on the G1.
During a Panasonic road show the other day I held a Summilux in front of a G1 body and could see the building across the street in focus.
Returning to the store and looking at that cam again, the screen turned black with a warning and nothing worked, as soon as I removed the standard zoom.
The instruction manual was not much help. What should I do? Thanks!

if I understand you correctly, the G1 does not work without the (original) lens?

You can change it.
"INDIVIDUAL MENU" then "trigger without lens" and pick >yes <

(excuse me, i speak only googlenglish )

Ok, Quatro has understood me ...

the "INDIVIDUAL MENU" is "Custom Menu" (page 5) and "trigger without lens" is called "Shoot W/O Lens"
