I think you are wrong when it comes to the Metabones smart adapter costing 400$ : it allows electronic communication with the body and as such you can change aperture directly from the body, as if you had a native lens. Well on eBay you can find anything. Those Metabones are in short supply, so some try to benefit from it. B&H is a reputed camera shop in NY and they aren't a cheap shop. So I'd consider their prices as a good indication of what costs things. Of course if you are in the EU, you have to add the VAT and the shipping to B&H prices.WRONG !

FWIW, Metabones is also a "Chinese" adapter.Still the Chinese are cheaper, of course, but yours doesn't appear to communicate with the body.
