So today I got my new F1.8 25mm Olympus prime lens. I am still waiting on the OMD EM5 MKII to ship, and that will have to wait probably like two more weeks. What to do with the lens?- let's do an exclusive boxed review.
The lens comes in a box that seems to defy the style of the OMD line boxes, which is like gray/dark "high end scotch/whiskey" drink box, and instead comes in some "Olympus happy blue" along with a strip of photos marking the box on the left side, which is more reminiscent of the first Olympus P-1 marketing campaign.
I was concerned for a moment that this meant this lens was a bit like a Pentax Q toy lens, but the words "PREMIUM" re-assured me that this had to be-well, a premium product.
Looking around all six sides of the box does not reveal an itemization of in-box contents, which makes it a bit harder to guess if this lens comes with the hood or if it's a separate purchase (I heard this one in particular comes with the hood- crossing fingers).
The box was reasonably small, along with enough heft to indicate that it encompassed what seems to be some metallic device- that should probably the the lens I guess. This "enough of a heft feeling" made me realize that the box for now could be excellent at holding papers on my desk, making for an "Olympus lens prime themed" paper weight.
Anyhow, I decided not to open the box so I could give a proper "boxed lens review"- if we may call it that way, or if at a flip of a coin, at fate's will- I decided to cancel my pre-order and return the lens unopened to Amazon ready for sale.
