New Olympus EM1 Mark II coming soon

Was presented at Photokina 2016 - Monday evening CET .....

    https://www.dpreview.com/news/974017...ii-development

looks like a really promising action camera which should offer high IQ and great DR as well.

With the Pro lens lineup available today and in the future this should be a very attractive system
Life is an ever changing journey

    Thanks Vivek.
No, if I understand the term correctly my E-M5.2 has a swivel LCD.

If I were still shooting sports and other action for a living, it would be terrific value. For more pedestrian stuff, the G80 is probably better value. So, unless GAS sets in...

I also heard about a high price here in Europe - discussions were around 3000.- which would definitely be far too high!

Maybe that's the price bundled with the 12-100mm lens????

GAS will eventually overcome me, but for the first time with a micro 4/3rds set-up
I don't feel that I will gain a lot photographically by instantly upgrading (to the Mk11 from my EM1
with the Pro zooms that I have).

    So (hopefully ) I have time to let the dust settle;
wait for the reality of the Leicapan 12-60 etc.
    and then decide.

If the rumoured price is true and the 12-60 is not for me
then I may well go over to an XT-2 based system.

Re: New Olympus EM1 Mark II coming soon

I've been using the E-M1 since it came out in 2013 and have no complaints with it at all. It was expensive, as are all top of the line professional grade bodies, but just like its E-1 and E-5 predecessors, it just keeps on going. Yes, I still have and use the E-1 as well, if somewhat infrequently now...

The value of these top of the line cameras comes in service life, not features and price. They are robust and reliable cameras that shouldn't be junked after three years just because a newer model has been introduced.

The Mark II looks like a very nice advance for those who needs more sophisticated sequence capabilities, and other advances in focus automation. That's not me, at present I'm quite content with the E-M1's capabilities. I use it mostly when in-body IS and telephoto work is primary, it's a handier package than my other cameras for those needs.

Re: New Olympus EM1 Mark II coming soon

The Fuji X-Pro2 pulled me away from M43 over the past year (when I am not shooting full frame with Leica gear) because of its really nice user interface. As a result I now have some good Fuji lenses and an order in for an X-T2 to support the longer ones. The E-M1 and E-M5.2 still get events business, with their Pro zooms. (Arrival of a dozen or so heads of states in my immediate vicinity, some of them landing their helicopters next door to my office means that the reportorial gear will come out this weekend for sure.) To me it seems that the features added to the M-1 to make it an M-1.2 are aimed at 4K video and sports shooters. I'm intrigued, but not compelled to be the first on my block.

I enjoy fooling around with the 8-shot 64 MPx superresolution features of the m5.2, which are apparently being transferred in an improved version to the M1.2, but there is a dirty little secret of the 8-shot scheme. The extra pixels overlap with the ones you already have, and the de-Bayering that gives rise to the 2x2 microcell of "new" pixels made up from the 8 shots draws information from a spread over several of the "old" pixels. The result is that you start with a very smeared image, which requires careful sharpening to do even as well as the 40 MPx jpegs that are provided. In fact I often have gotten just as good a result from the first of the 8 images (the .ORI file) as I do from the 8-shot .ORF after quite a bit of effort. But the Pro zoom lenses keep me somewhat loyal.

Re: New Olympus EM1 Mark II coming soon

It are mainly the Pro zoom lenses that are keeping me in Olympus territory, followed by the insane IBIS.

On the other side the XT2 turned out to be SO GOOD, especially also in the AF department, that I am currently mainly using the Fuji over the EM1.

Will definitely wait a bit before I jump on the Em1m2 bandwagon!
