Exakta Real lens mount mystery.

Hi there,

Does anybody know of the existance of an adapter to make use of a lens in Exakta Real mount on a digital Olympus? I am afraid it does not exist.
I have been googeling around, the only adapter I found is to make use the regular Exakta mount lenses on a Exakta camera with a Real mount.
Any specialists on this on the forum?

Thanks, Michiel

Hello Michiel,
Kindai International in Japan makes one of these lens adapters -- Exakta to 4/3 cameras. Their website (Japanese) is http://www.kindai-inc.co.jp/mount_fosaex.htm. Best regards, Leica 77 :)

The problem is there are 2 different Exakta mounts. The most common Exakta/fourthirdmount adapter I already have.

There is also the Exakta Real mount which is much bigger then the regular Exakta mount. Looks more like a Pentacon Six mount. It was introduced in the late 60th and did not exist very long, that's why it is quiet rare. They made an adapter to fit the older and more regular Exakta lenses on a camera with the Exakta Real mount. Would be nice the other way around.

Bought this, like new, Schacht 90/2,8 lens with original box for € 15,- which I would like to try out. I am afraid it has to end up on some dusty shelf :cry:
Thank you anyway for looking into it.

Hello Michiel,
Sorry I did not realize that there were two kinds of Exakta lens mount. At Kindai International's website, they have another adapter (it says All Exakta lenses to Canon FD). http://www.kindai-inc.co.jp/mount_mexaeos.htm If you can take a look at it and see if the Exakta Real mount is compatible with this one. Best regards, Leica 77 :)

Hello Michiel,
It is a beautiful group of Exakta lenses. A few years ago, I had lots of fun looking for a Rollei SL35 lens adapter to 4/3 mount cameras. It took a while, however, I finally found one and now own one of these rather rare Rollei SL35 lens adapters. All the best, Leica 77.

Hello Leica77,
This could be it. It sure looks different then my Exakta/4/3 adapter.
And then use a Canon to M4/3 adapter?
Well I look into it tommorow. Have to go to sleep. :sleep006:
Kind regards, Michiel

Alpa Reflex lens mount search

Hello Michiel,
Kindai International in Japan ... Their website (Japanese) is http://www.kindai-inc.co.jp
Hi,

I have been trying to search Kindai to see if they have an Alpa Reflex to mft adapter, but I get lost in their Japanese-only web site. Would you know if they do, or any other supplier of such adapter? Currently I use

Alpa -> Leica R
Leica R -> Leica M
Leica M -> mft

Thanks in advance

Hello Peter,
It's a great photo taken in the tropical rainforest! I checked the Kindai International's website to see if they make lens adapters for Alpa Reflex lenses. Unfortunately, I could not find it on Kindai's list of adapters. One website you want to follow up, if not already, is Igor's Camera Exchange in Cleveland, Ohio. http://www.igorcamera.com/alpa.htm. They seem to sell Alpa related adapters, lenses, etc. It might be worth checking it out. Best regards, Leica 77 :)

Got this E-mail from Kindai International:

Dear Mr. Schierbeek

Thank you for your interest in our adapters.

Unfortunately you can not use your Real Mount lens with our Exakta-4/3 adapter.
Also we do not have Canon FD-4/3 adapter.

Best regards
T. Masuda
Kindai International Inc.

So that's it then; need some techno wizard to get the Real mount lens working or just forget about it. :confused:

Good luck, but I doubt that you'll find much unless something was custom-made during the Real's brief period of existence.

As you know, the Real's lens mount is larger in diameter than the standard Exakta mount (46mm vs. 38mm, if I remember correctly.) So while it was possible to use standard Exakta lenses on a Real via the adapter you discovered originally (more or less a simple ring that made the mount larger in diameter) it would have been impossible to go the other direction and make the (larger) Real lens fit into the (smaller) standard Exakta mount.

So, all the scads of adapters made over the years for mounting the standard Exakta lens on various other cameras will not work with your Exakta Real lens, because the lens mount's diameter is too large.

To find an adapter to mount an Exakta Real lens to anything, I would guess that your best hope might be Alpa -- the Alpa bodies were thin enough that many adaptations were possible, and they were active in the camera business during the brief period during which the Real was produced.

But even if you found one (and I have no evidence that they ever existed) then you'd simply have the different problem of finding an adapter to put an Alpa lens on whatever you wanted to use.

So you should have an interesting challenge ahead of you, to say the least!

Hello Ranger 9,
Many thanks for your informative and thoughtful reply! With the introductions of new 4/3 and micro 4/3 cameras, our digital imaging possibilities have expanded. Now, some of us are looking for various lens adapters to give life back to a number of fine vintage lenses. It is a lot of fun to search for some exotic lens adapters. At this point in time, the Exakta Real mount adapter does not seem to exist...

On another note, I am delighted to receive news from RJ of Jinfinance in Shanghai that his company will be making Contax G lens to micro 4/3 camera adapters. I have kept several Contax G lenses together with a Contax G2 body. At last, in a few months, I shall be able to use Contax G lenses on my little Lumix G1 via a lens adapter. To me, it is really exciting news as I was quite impressed by Contax G lenses some years ago. Best regards, Leica 77 :)
