Pen AF/MF idea?

So in my quest for ease of operation , I have
an idea to solve an issue with focus.
If you set the camera to focus @ AEL button...
then prefocus on a distance like Hyper Focal...
The camera stays focused at that distance until you focus again.
If you need to AF, then hit the button and your there in
1 step instead of changing from MF.

It saves from hitting the funtion button and refocusing...
Works great.

Any thoughts?
Critics will be executed at dawn.....

The camera stays focused at that distance until you focus again.
Not sure if the lens "stays focused" after the camera goes to sleep (to conserve power) and when you wake it up by half pressing the shutter button.

I'm not at the camera but maybe someone (like you) can test
it.......and publish the result...
Thanks.....

Better: set the focus to AEL and disable LENS RESET in the Menue !!

My way:
In the street it is better to prefocus, disable LENS RESET and set the focus to MF. That works !! Even if you shut down the cam. It stores the values and will not reset the lens and if you want you can easy modify the focusdistances....

Understood. But at times I have been known to get in tight, real tight
and then quickly I need AF....
I dreamt this setup last nite but could not test it.
Waiting for a result or I will do it later....
Just an idea....
Thank for the great reply...

Thanks for this Streetshooter

Your web site images are stunning. I used to see you a lot on the small sensor forum. How is the EP-1 working for you versus your SS cameras?

There is a menu setting for this. You can have the camera on turning on go to infinity focus. This is more useful for me in the predawn early morning when the camera doesn't have enough light to focus and the screen is also useless so you either use this setting or a manual lens with focus scale.

Keith,
First off thanks for the prop on the work.

The Pen has freed me entirely. I have been on a Quest to find the camera that would work with me in synergy in image making.
For the most part, the quest is satisfied and the journey continues.

The pen gets me to my comfort zone and works without intruding or imposing itself on the image making process.

I have not read the manual. This in itself is a huge statement.
It implies to an intuitive experience.

My 17mm will arrive today and that will get me even closer to the
Zen state I need to be in.

I don't think the camera is for everybody BUT....
In time more serious shooters will discover it AND...
more shooters will become serious with it....

Thanks again Keith.....

Agreed. I have not read the manual.....yet.
The issue is not infinity. The only time I focus on Infinity is when I pray.
The camera will hold any given focus distance once focused with the AEL button.
So you could work at say...Hyperfocal and let the camera go to sleep so it
doesn't heat up and when it Awakes by a 1/2 press, it's still in focus.

Now if you need AF, just hit the AEL for focus.
It's just an ingenious design and well thougt out.

The funtion button will do this to but not as fast.
