E-P1 viewfinder...any good?

Hi Rafa,

Sorry to disappoint you, but the Olympus viewfinder is for framing only. It is basically a window that will show more or less what the camera also sees. The principle is the same as with these finders: http://www.cameraquest.com/leicafin.htm . The idea is a leftover from the original Barnack cameras where there were 2 windows: one for framing (a finder like these) and one for focus (the rangefinder).

You're confusing with one of the many rumours about an EVF that would or would not appear in the coming weeks/months. Because the hot shoe of the E-P1 has no special pins to transfer video, such an EVF would require a wire from the HDMI to transfer the signals.

But there is nothing known about plans for an EVF for the E-P1. There is a lot of speculation, but it could all be wishful thinking. For the moment, the only viewfinder available is basically a passive window for framing only.

Peter.
