INDUSTAR-69 28mm aperture control?

I've recently bought an INDUSTAR-69 28mm f2.8 and it just arrived today. It is incredible how small this lens is but I cannot find out how to select the aperture I want. The only wheels that I can rotate are the focus and the one that attaches the lens to the adapter. Does anyone else have this lens? Do you know if you can control the aperture?

Also, I tend to see that all wider faster manual lenses have a sort of a glow around the highlights unless you stop them down up to f4. Is this a common issue? When I shoot at f2.8 with the Industar or at f2.0 with the Pentax 24mm it's like I'm shooting with one of those 70's glaze filters.

The aperture control is around the front lens element. You can see it in the first picture.

The flare could be due to internal reflections. Those two lenses cover a full 24x36 frame, so that leaves a lot of light to bounce around inside the camera. You could try making a lens hood to see if it helps.

Have a look at this...it could be what the author terms "Ghosting"...he notes that it diminishes if the lens is stopped down a little.

Great read that article!

"When using fast wide angle lenses you need to use them closed by one stop to avoid ghosting. The slower ones can be used wide open. They all benefit a little (sharpness wise), by closing to f4~11. To my eyes the sweet-spot for virtually all OMZ's is f=5.6. "

This effect (to me, it looks 'hazy') also happens with the Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 and 24mm f/2.0 when at maximum aperture. It's pretty much gone one stop down from wide open. The Rokkor 40mm f2 that I have shows some 'haze' wide open, but less than the Canons.

I read a curious series of posts a while back concerning adapting the Konica 40mm f/1.8 for 4/3. At least one person who had done the adaptation talked about creating and inserting a smaller rear baffle, and how he thought this had improved wide-open performance (i.e. cut down the amount of haze).

I really cannot control the aperture. I'm uploading a video so that you guys may see the issue.

In the meanwhile I can show you that this is the only ring that works:

I've tried pulling and pushing and it won't budge.

Vivek, I'll bring it today. Maybe you'll have better luck.

Ar ha, you bought a stranger. This lens in fact is from a half frame Russian made camera.
I used to want one but seems the quality is not impressive and I need a mount to fit it.
You may have some LOMO style image, I think.
