I'm loving the tonality of the B&W shots here. I'm waiting for some chemicals from B&H so I can start processing my own 'real' B&W film, but for now, here's a shot of my little artist on Fuji Pro 400H converted in PS. M6, Canon 50/1.2 @f2.0

I'm delighted and bewildered by the quality of the images in this thread and sorry to have discovered it so late. Every single picture is superb here, just can't figure out what went wrong in the digital threads. Please don't take this the wrong way but I can't figure out why the same photographers who have posted such amazing images here are content with mere average works in the digital threads? Have we really taken such huge step backwards from film into digital?

Helen, really like the bridge shot. Cold and gritty in the city (sorry ). And the gull looks a bit bat-signal-ish. Nice.

    Jim,

Those interior shots are beautiful. I love how the texture of the carpet, especially on the stairs, and fabrics just seem to emerge from out of the grains.

i'm ducking my head and NOT really looking but i love all the pictures!!!

(self-preservation, you understand. i'm one of those who so much prefers the look of film but isn't ready to go there yet.)

keep my lust up! one day i will succumb....

(in the meanwhile, i'll continue to sneak peaks between my fingers)

2 from last week using the new to me kodak 400cn,cant say I love it,seems to give a flatter image than normal film.
Does anyone know if this should be scanned as black and white or colour neg,thanks.Neil.

CN scans well ... you just have to push the contrast a bit ... but it's wide latitude let's you push it pretty far without as much grain penelity.

I scan it as 16 bit RGB color and convert to B&W in PS while still keeping the RGB color space ... seems to provide the most data to work with, and allows you to add slight color tone to warm or cool the shot and richen it up a bit. I add 3 points of red and 3 points of yellow to a neutral B&W shot when printing people.

Thanks Helen, generous you are,its not just that the scans came out flat,Ive compensated a little for that. Its also that the objects in the world seem to have lost the space around them, less depth and 3 dimensionality than in the tri x world.Am going to rescan using fotografz method above, thanks again.........Neil.

am struggling to get this film to look right, its the same role as the others, kodak cn400 ,taken on boxing day,M6 with 50mm f2.the negs came back from the lab covered in watermarks and a few scratches. after developing, the film had been rolled up and just put back into the plastic film tub,no plastic sleeves here!

i'm getting tempted to un-wrap the old changing tent...curious if the move back to full frame is re-charging users for wide angle? that certainly would be appealing for me with medium format and that yummy Schneider 40mm. can you still get 120 tri-x?

Thanks Helen and Erik, you both produce such interesting work, very enjoyable.Im actually quite anoyed with the people who processed the film,I cant spend time only to have it wasted by somebody else. The scratches are unforegivable,as I can find no benifit to this film Im going to go back to tri x and develop myself, then theres only one person to blame!

From last week after I received my new to me M3. Mounted a Nikkor 3.5cm/3.5, loaded Reala, and went out shooting snapshoots using sunny 16. I did open up some when I was near this stream--maybe f8 or so. These are from the campus of Whitman College.
