Leica M4-2 ... "BGN" grade user

Here's some camera candy for you: the Leica M4-2 body I bought, fitted with a CV Skopar 50mm f/2.5 lens:

(Photos made with the Ricoh GXR + A12 50mm Macro + remote flash.)

I found the leather wrist strap on Ebay for $9. The half case is an Artist & Artisan ... pure luxury.

Handsome. The second M I owned was an M4-2, the model has always been one of my favorites.

Got some new legs for my RZ Pro IID/ Aptus II 6 ... Berlebach 8043 with the leveling ball/center column (which I plan to keep down).

Congrats on the Berlebach tripod Shelby! It's a beauty (as is the camera, and I'm envious of your Aptus back). I have the 3042, which also has the leveling ball, but with no center column. Great tripods and very nicely made. Here's a photo of my Pentax 67 and 300mm EDIF lens mounted on my Berlebach....it's a good tripod for these big MF cameras.

The addiction is strong, although the M8 is on the market, with the arrival of the M9. Lenses are being sought as we type.
Only member missing is my 1929 Model 1, it is in "hospital" getting a tart up. I'll shoot a piccie when it returns.

That is a real beauty. One of my first cameras was a 1000f that I purchased from a pit boss when I lived in Las Vegas a million years ago. He also had the 80 and 250 lenses for it which I bought. There is something about those cameras that is just so pleasing. I'm sure you'll really enjoy your new find.

    Re: Portraits of Your Gear

It's really tough to follow Jurgen's 1957 Hasselblad SW with a CFV back....

My bit of gear is not exotic, expensive, old, rare or beautiful.....but for a Pentax 67 lens, it is not easy to find and is by all accounts, very good. I have looked for this lens, off and on, for a few years. Pretty much gave up looking last year, figuring my P67 lens collection was as complete as it was ever going to be. But after seeing another post on the Pentax MF Forum about this lens, I decided to check KEH once again. Couldn't believe my luck. They had TWO of them....I quickly put the EX+ lens in my cart and checked out. It arrived today. I only wish I had a Pentax 645D to put it on. Perhaps I will try it on the D800E instead and someday, when I'm really ambitious, on my Pentax 67.

That lens looks like new . It seems to me that you have a lucky hand for good second hand lenses . Congratulation .
I think of your HASSELBLAD 500mm TESSAR you could aquire some time ago . I never saw a 500mm TESSAR for such a reasonable price .

    Re: Portraits of Your Gear

Thanks Jurgen! I have been lucky, in so many ways. The Hasselblad 500mm Tessar C* is a beauty for sure and at that price, I just couldn't say no.

Here is a more recent addition to my Pentax 645 system, the well regarded 35mm SMCP-A lens. The 645 is a really fine camera.....it is one of the most comfortable and natural cameras to hold that I have ever owned.

The temptation to buy a Pentax 645D increases every day.....but knowing I would have to sell something to afford a new 645D makes it a really tough decision.

    Re: Portraits of Your Gear

Gary, except for one Mamiya 6 body and the 75mm lens, I sold everything in that picture above to buy my 645D. I don't regret it at all. And the A 35mm works really nicely on the 645D. BTW, I made back the money I spent on the 645D in about a year and a half worth of film and processing costs if I had shot the same number of frames on my medium-format film cameras.

    Re: Portraits of Your Gear

I wish I could bring myself to do what you did Shashin, to fund the purchase of a 645D. I am certain I would use it far more often than I have my Hasselblad CFV-16. I'm just not there yet. Once I've bought into a system, I have a real hard time parting with it, even when I don't use it as often as I should. Problem is...there something about each of my cameras that I really like and whatever it was that drew me to them from the very beginning is often still there, many years later.

The Konicas and the XA were my father's and everything else has been collected in the forty or so years I've been shooting.

I got a heck of a deal on that M2, I'm still surprised at how cheap it was. Same goes for the M4-P and Jupiter-8 rig $630US total for both!

    Re: Portraits of Your Gear

At the basement floor of a local, somewhat shabby shopping mall, there's a small camera shop that seems to make a living mostly from taking people's passport photos and selling the odd p&s camera. For some reason, I decided to go down there last week, and what did they have on display in the window? A brand new Nikon F80 (N80 for you Americans) with battery grip for $100. Since I didn't own a compact, lightweight F-mount SLR with AF, it was an offer too good to pass. So after 5 minutes convincing the staff at the shop that I really did understand that it was not digital and that I had to purchase film somewhere, I wandered off into the sunset with this (no, lens was not included):

We don't get wiser as we get older. It's a myth.
