    Thanks!

One more from today. 5D and the 24-105L lens. Seems like a pretty decent camera/lens combination.

A shot with the 65mm MP-E lens (on 5D II). As you may know this is a rather unusual lens designed exclusively for reproduction ratios from 1:1 to 5:1. The current image of ice crystals is close to 5:1.

Rex finally got his wish and we had a decent snowfall this morning. He would spend all day every day in the snow if he had his way. All of these were with the 1DMKIV and Sigma 50-500mm OS. Handheld at 3200 iso with the lens wide open. The high iso ability of this camera still amazes me. No noise reduction on any of these. Most were shot at +1 exposure compensation. Shutter speeds were fairly slow but the OS works great on this lens.

Seems like I've got an unexpected series going for 2011......the utility poles of Anchorage.

Canon 5D and the 24-105L lens. I really like this camera and lens combo. It just plain works for me.

Re: How about more and more fun with Canon...

My wife is in a Taiko drumming group. They performed a couple of songs at a local middle school recently, as the kick off for a multi-lingual program competition. I took a few photos and shot some video. Here's one of my favorites. The sound of 8-16 drummers is pretty amazing! This fellow is one of the most experienced and dynamic performers in the group. He has great drumming skills and stage presence!

Canon 5D and the 70-200 f4 L lens (shot at f4), ISO 800, no flash (I forgot to bring one). Color balance seems a bit off, although I did remember to change it from AWB to Fluorescent (for a change).

All of those are shot with the 24/1.4 mkII, barring the last two , shot using the 24-70/2.8.

Re: How about more and more fun with Canon...

    Thanks, DHart!

The web-size compression killed off some of the grain/structure effects added in SEfP, and I see some areas on all these shots that are a couple of stops too hot. But.. I like them all a lot as they turned out, and they all look great in prints. Glad to see you enjoyed the series, as I really enjoyed working with it!

Using the 15 day trial version of (SEfP) v2.0, like I did with v1.0, and every print I make kind of pushes me towards paying for the software.. Only nine days left!!

Now, I want to see some more from you proper photographers, as you provide genuine inspiration, and I don't want my hack work to spam this entire thread..

Spring is in the air.....so it must be "breakup" season in Alaska.
On a heavily overcast day with temps in the 40s....the ice is breaking up on Ship Creek.
Taken today with my replacement 40D and the 50mm f2.5 macro lens.

Lots of lovely photos, Arild. Isn't one of them (no. 6 of the first series) taken at Bærums Verk?

PS. Do you have a lot of dust on your sensor or am I seeing things?

Getting a feel for the 1D2 I received earlier this week. I'm looking forward to giving it a real workout this weekend and deciding whether to keep it. I love the Canon pro build body, just not sure about 8 megapixels. This image was taken with the 135mm f2 L lens which I received today. The lens is a keeper, for sure.

Re: How about more and more fun with Canon...

One more from today. Different angle and time of day (sun at my back), so it doesn't have the same 3D look with the shading etc. This one with the 50mm f1.4 lens.

I really do like the feel, build quality and especially the shutter sound of this camera (crazy, I know). I never liked the sound or feel of the shutter on my 5D, even though it takes very good images....I wonder if the 5DII is any better in that respect.

Re: How about more and more fun with Canon...

My wife is a member of a Japanese Taiko drumming group here in Anchorage. Last evening, they performed at a benefit for the survivors of the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan. I took a few photos and some video. Most of the still photos were not as sharp as I would have liked...my 70-200 f4 lens is the non-IS version. In hindsight, I should have used my Canon 40D with the 24-105 f4 L IS lens. Here are a few of the better shots.

The video (Canon HF10) came out very good, except I should have adjusted the audio levels downwards....there was quite a bit of distortion due to the intense volume of the drums and high pitched flute. Shooting video is alot more challenging than I had anticipated.

    Canon 5D, 70-200 f4 non-IS L lens, 1250-1600 ISO, 1/50-1/60 sec at f4

Re: How about more and more fun with Canon...

Surely there are still a few Canon shooters on GetDPI. I don't think everyone has switched to Nikons, a Pentax K5, m4/3rds or MFD.

Most of my friends here in Alaska shoot with Nikons and they really enjoy giving me grief for shooting with a Canon. I know some of you must be out there having fun with your Canon, so let's see some more pics here folks.

Re: How about more and more fun with Canon...

Sunday was a gloomy, overcast day here, so I was playing around with shallow DOF and manual focus using my newly acquired 135mm f2 L lens and Canon 1D Mark II. This one was shot at f2.

That 135/2 is a sweet lens!

You´re not seeing things, Jørgen. I didn´t actually own a cleaning kit until recently, when I started using apertures narrower than f/10. Had some sort of weird fear of that causing diffraction, but then I figured nobody will really care..

1 and 6 are from Bærums Verk, the rest are from Fornebu/Oksnøen, and the portrait of my dad is shot on Haslum.

Love the train shot! I´d love to go to Alaska myself one day to shoot landscapes, but I guess that can wait a couple of years. In the mean time, a buddy/coworker of mine has won a trip to AK to shoot moose/elk and big, bad bears in the fall. Well, well.

Some very nice images posted here recently. It's been awhile since I've had one of my Canons out for a spin. Summer Solstice Festival in Anchorage this past weekend and the weather was perfect...sunny and 65-70, so I wandered around with my Canon 40D and 17-85 EF-S lens. I am still very happy with how well this camera performs.

Here's a close up (cropped section) of a totem pole in front of the federal courthouse.

Re: How about more and more fun with Canon...

Figured I would jump restart the slow period here with something recent from my XSi and 50mm EF macro...and some older stuff with various Canon gear I have revisited and reprocessed..sorry I have been gone so long...

Wonderful shots Don. Love those ocean images....I wish the water here in Anchorage was that beautiful.

The macro lens is one I've been turning to more often than not lately. That 50mm f2.5 macro is amazingly good. Here's an image I took just a few days ago with that lens (and my 1D Mark II).

Gary - Thanks for the kind comments and your macro is beautiful also. The 50mm ef is a joy to carry and cheap. I use it often and acts as a great normal lens too. I just rebought a 5D again after selling it to upgrade and try Nikon again. The other 3 images in the previous note were taken during a quick Florida trip a few years ago, when I rented/borrowed a 1D mark III. Now that they are cheaper I may look into that, I found I got a higher keeper rate with it then other cameras and am not just talking about sharpness, wonderful tone and color too. But the 5D won't be resold this time and also, has incredible image quality. Best, Don

Wonderful colors in those images Don! I really do like the EF 50 macro....as you said, it's a good lens and so inexpensive.

Today was one of those perfect "cloudy bright" days here in Anchorage, so on my lunch break I pulled out the 1D2 and took a few more shots with the 50mm macro. You've reminded me that I haven't had the 5D out for awhile.....it hasn't been getting much "love" lately.

All of these images where shot wide open at f2.5
