Re: How about more and more fun with Canon...

Some weeks ago I posted a few photos of my first attempt on sandhill cranes. It was foggy and all I had was a 400 2.8IS lens which did not have enough reach. I went back last monday (President's Day) morning. Light was great and I was able to borrow a 2x converter. Here is my second attempt at photographing these birds.

This one reminds me of bombers in a flight formation.

The Anchorage Fur Rendezvous (Rondy) Festival began on Friday and goes thru this weekend. It's a winter festival with a 70+ year history, including the three day World Championship Sprint Sled Dog race.

Here are a couple pics of my favorite entry in the snow sculpture competition. For those who might not recognize this fellow....it's a snow moose.

Canon 1D Mark III and 24-70/f2.8L lens

One more image from the Rondy snow sculptures. Temps rose into the upper 30s today, so we could see some melting happening soon.

Re: How about more and more fun with Canon...

    Hi

Took a trip to New Zealand - Great trip, nice people and so so clean!! What was amazing was the dynamic of the clouds and the way the clouds matched the landscape. Most of the shots were taken on South Island - with a Cambo and IQ 180 with a 40mm Rodenstock and a 5DIII with a 24-105. These were from the 5D III. I uploaded them at 120 ppi. These I guess are sorta like calendar shots -

Anybody have any tips about uploading so they images are larger these are 120 ppi. Thanks for the help.

My wife and I visited Angkor Wat in Cambodia during Chinese New Year, and while there we decided to have a little fun with the light and location.

    Hi Shelby,

You take some great photos of your kids, no matter which camera you are using. I really like these.

Did you use any artificial light on these shots or is it all natural light? Great composition and lighting.

I've got a foot in both worlds (including the D800e), but I actually shoot more with my Canon 1D2 and Nikon D700. Here's one of the last shots I got of the Anchorage Fur Rondy snow sculptures....on a day when the temp was in the high 30s and they were beginning to melt. I came back the next day, hoping to get some more shots of the big melt and found that all the sculptures had been hauled away overnight.

Thank you both very much - I have to work on the shadows a bit, when printed (Epson 4900, 360 dpi, Image Print, Epson Roll Luster) at 17 X 22 the shadows in the the crease of the mountains appear to be plugged (you really have to look close to see detail), need to open it up about 5% . Think these would hold up well at 24 inches on the short side.

Thank again for your you comments

Thanks Lloyd! Still having the Nikon D800E for landscape.
I like Canon's super telephoto better than Nikon's. Besides, larger MP, the 5D M III is clearly a better camera than the D800.

I'm on the road for a few weeks with my wife and 3 kids... cross country vacation by car. Left Baton Rouge and stopped in San Antonio, then Carlsbad, NM. Today we're in White Sands, NM... grabbed this quick pano, handheld, just before coming into Alamogordo, NM. Stitched/Edited completely on my laptop (very quickly) in PS CS6.

    60D and cheapy 35/2.
