Re: Fun with the Fuji X-E1

Would I be mad to trade my X-Pro 1 + 15, 35, 60 lenses for an X-E1 + 18-55? I'd lose a ton of money but somehow I have not 'bonded' with the X-Pro 1 as well as I did with the X100 and I really do like not having to change lenses too often. My cameras producing the best quality for me at the moment are my Sigma DP Merrills, so I am thinking X-E + 18-55 as a general walkbout and for anything 'serious' I would reach for my Merrills.

Those that have the 18-55 zoom say it's a great lens so I doubt I'd be losing out much on quality and I'd be back to a smaller form factor.

Hmn, then again there's the X100S but that would be daft considering I still have the X100 and I am still not convinced about the X-trans sensor (yes I know that is in the X-E1 too) for landscape work ...

Of course I could start looking further afield, like the Pentax K5 II S + 18-135mm but - no, already been there with the first K5 and sold it after it sat on the shelf when my X100 took over LOL ...

    I think I need to see a doctor ...

Lee, I don't think that is crazy at all. The right body is the body that works best for you. The X-E1 is more compact and has a couple of upgraded features from the XPro-1. Me, I wish I had gone for the XPro-1 myself instead of the X-E1, as I do badly miss having an optical viewfinder. Anyone interested in swapping bodies, let me know!

Well, I went and did it. I ordered an X-E1 and the XF35/1.4 last week to fill the gap between my m4/3 and 5DII ... and I like it.

re: Fun with the Fuji X ___!

Been away for a while - life has been very busy (selling a house, buying a house, getting married!). Here are 4 from an extended stay at and around the lodge where our wedding was.

Hopefully I'll have more to post as I foresee having more time to get out and take some pictures!

Re: Fun with the Fuji X-E1

Had the X-Pro1 two years ago (together with the 18, 35, 60) , sold it, got the D800e. Now, for the small form factor, I got my X-E1 yesterday, together with the 18-55.

    First, some camera porn:

and an image from my first walk with the new arrival:

Ahhh. How I love that X-System.

I'm not sure I have ever seen a shot of Half Dome from that perspective. You must be what, further to the east and up out of the valley floor? The challenge I find shooting anything famous is finding something different about it to capture. William, you pulled it off, congrats!

    Chuck,
Many thanks! This is coming in from Tioga pass on road 120 and the place is called Olmsted point. you can either stay at the vista or wander around. I'm really happy with this one myself. I have seen so many shots of Half Dome and had no idea how I was going to get something " of my own" :-)

Really enjoying the X-E1, and I didn't even get it off Jono
Not sure I'm going to bother too much with RAW. Only the Otter pic is from RAW to pull the highlights. Rare to see a pair at it in sunlight I'm told.

Thanks Chuck. I really love the X-E1 for travel. I have the 55-200, but did not bring it due to its weight. But, I did not miss using it, since 18-55 is so versatile.

    The 55-200mm is very sharp!
The following was taken at 200mm, maximum aperture and minimum focusing distance.

This one taken through the foliage:

PS: These are posted in "final form" as I elected to crop them for final posting. These were with the pancakes and originally posted un -cropped in another thread.

Re: Fun with the Fuji X-E1

Here is another set I took while in Paris last June-July.
The Monet's lily pond. These photos seem to be not as sharp as the original I uploaded to Flickr. Di I have to attach the original size which is much too big. C&C are welcome

I used Silky to developed this from raw. The rest are just OOC jpeg.
