X-T1 in The Bisti Wilderness, New Mexico

A friend and I spent an afternoon hiking into the Bisti Wilderness in New Mexico. We actually entered late in the afternoon and had we not had a GPS with us we probably would not have found our way out of that maze until the sun came up the next day. When we finally turned around to make our way out it was completely dark, no moon, no stars.

The sad thing is that we never reached the area we wanted to photograph (with towering Hoodos and Wings)... Next trip we'll get an earlier start.

There are no trails, no signs, no park rangers... in fact we never ran into another soul during the hike in or out. They call this area The Badlands with good reason. Here's a few of a hauntingly beautiful place just at sunset.

If you have seen the SciFi Move "Pitch Black" then you will have an idea of what this area looked like.

All taken with the X-T1 and 18-55mm

X-T1 and Minolta Rokkor Macro - Where snails go to die.

These small snail shells are smaller than the tip of your little finger. I shot them on wet sandstone with the X-T1 and the Minolta Rokkor Macro by a small fountain on my patio during the Golden Hour.

Focus peaking make macro work so much easier, especially when using old legacy lenses.

Show me something which is hand polished, said the voice.
    I did.

But did it take 45 minutes?, asked the voice.
    It did, I said.

But is it a thing of beauty, asked the voice.
    It is, I said.

But is it unique, asked the voice.
    It is, I said.

There is only one of it kind in the world, I added.

    No, said the voice.

    Ask Swarovski, I added humbly.

    Desert Love with the X-T1

Here are a few that I took in White Sands National Monument near Alamogordo, New Mexico. Such a beautiful place. If you're looking for quiet and solitude you can't beat the desert and the dunes.

All JPG, all shot with the X-T1 and the 18-55. B&W conversion in Lightroom. I have not given up on RAW but until Adobe can do it properly I will shoot JPG with the Fujis... I have had no issues with correcting color/wb in JPGs thus far so I will not suffer the disc usage, frustration and extra work that RAW takes at this time.

If I really need RAW for something I will shoot JPG + RAW and handle it if needed.. but for 99% of what I am shooting, the JPGs are more than enough, especially when you can do so much in post with them.

And here is the color version of the above B&W...

    Nathan,

The question is just how hard did you hit the brakes and did you back up for the shot?
