This lil' Fuji never stops surprising me. Here's a shot I took of the setting sun, a chance encounter after a thunderstorm rolled through and the clouds parted just in time. Shot with the Voigtlander 50mm f/1.1 Nokton - which captured the colors perfectly:

What if there were no roads in Monument Valley?

I was looking through some of the photos I took while in Monument Valley and began thinking about how it would look if there were no roads. There is a winding road that runs through the valley. It is constantly traveled by tourist in their own cars as well as "tour trucks". Since I was bored tonight and nothing interesting was on TV I decided to roll the clock back a hundred years or so (via Photoshop) and take those roads and tourist out of the picture.

The original photo was taken with the Fuji X-T1 and the 18-55mm

I forgot to add the original... so here it is....

Been incredibly busy these last few weeks... Its high season and I am fully booked... The X-T1 has been given a real work out lately and the fujis have 100% replaced the canons as system number two with the Hassy...
Here is one from a recent family shoot...

Thanks Mike I love the profoto lighting, yes its expensive but its a joy to work with and the modifiers are fantastic!
Not sure what "Dragan" is... just used lightroom with a slight de-sat and and a boost in mid-range contrast with curves and the clarity slider

    Nathan,

I think you're showing that using great lighting properly really makes any camera, including the Fuji sing.

With the prophotos are you using the hot flash sync with remote or sync cable? I've found the hot shoe unreliable with even dedicated Fuji flashes and cables and so I've been looking and going full time via the sync cable with my radio remotes.

Re: Fun with the Fuji X ___!

Thanks Graham.. I totally agree... its the light that is most important

I am using Profoto Air triggers and they fire flawlessly I have now replaved all my pocket wizards with them. On my older packs without air support I use a short sync cable between a air tranceiver and the pack. But on the camera, no sync cables, the air triggers just work

Re: Fun with the Fuji X ___!

Thanks Nathan - good to know. Last time I tried it was out in the field and tried my Fuji flashes (which work great on the X-Pro1 & XE-1/2) both in the hot shoe and via cables. Neither worked. Remote actuation via the tiny Fuji flash with X-T1 worked but even using my colleagues Nikon's in manual mode would not work off the X-T1 via cable or direct - only remote flash triggered. On that day I resorted to using my X-E2 which worked perfectly.

Moral of the story - try out the setup and use of your gear with your new cameras, even those from the same manufacturer. I'm sure that it all works - when you've got time to work through the problem and the ambient light isn't fading while you're trying to get the shot!

Re: Fun with the Fuji X ___!

Just a thought Graham... but i you accidentally move the drive switch on the X-t1 to oneof the continuous modes then the flash will not fire....
This last month I have photographed four local kindegartens... I do quite informal portrais of the kids which the parents love.. I used the fuji EF42 with a canon TTL cable.. worked flawlessly on thousands of shots. I have also used my Canon 600 RT flashes in manual via the canon TTL cable.. again no problems...

    Nathan,

I see you shoot weddings. Did you use your X-T1 at weddings yet? If yes, how is the focus in dim light? Does it have problems locking focus? I'm shooting with the 5D II currently so you have something to compare with. I'm looking into moving to mirrorless due to weight and I'm considering the X-T1 system to replace my current one.

    Thanks,
    Valentin

    Nathan,

These are really creative! I love the rendering of the 56mm1.2 - the shallow DOF isolates the model beautifully. Also, I love the 14mm portrait, i've always liked shooting wide portraits too.
I just sold all my Sony A7 gear in favor of the Xt1. Fujifilm's prime lens line up is unique and honestly, the reason I switched.

    Hi Valentin
Weddings are not my main source of income, portrait and commercial is.. but if someone asks then I will do them
I have mainly used 1Dx and Hasselbald for my weddings But have used the X100 in churches as it is so quiet! After moving from Canon to Fuji as main system after the Hasselblad I have not shot any wedding that were dark. The 1Dx is a killer for AF in the dark... the 5DII is not... The X-T1 is good, but you really need to use one a while to understand how the AF works.... I would not be worried about using mine at a wedding. I still have the 1Dx and a very basic L lens line up "just in case" but it sits mainly on the shelf in the studio
    Hope this helps
    Nathan

You won't be disappointed! The Fujifilm XF/XC lenses are amazing. Quality products (tight, metal construction) and perform superbly.

I just picked up my second zoom, the 10-24mm (in addition to the 18-55).

I held one recently and was really impressed with the build. Actually, i was kinda limited by just the 55mm 1.8 of the A7. I thought there would be more wide prime FE offerings by now. I know there's FE zooms and some say the FE35mm is nice if you get a good copy, but I want wider and longer primes. I'd love to see pics of the 10mm-24mm. That's probably the only zoom FL that gets my attention. The XF14mm looks amazing too.

Re: Fun with the Fuji X ___!

Being a photographer in my part of the world I get all kinds of work.. from big national companies to small jobs for local companies (in addition to my portrait studio) Today I was doing a couple of jobs for a local real estate agent when I met this guy. Originally from a war torn part of the world that was all over the news in the early nineties, he has now made a new life and family over here. When I meet interesting people I often ask to take their portrait. Here is one from a very quicjk session on the guy's porch. X-T1 56mm @ 1.2 iso 800 His smile and eyes belie the incredibly dangerous life he had before...

First time posting, so go easy on me :) I recently went to Yosemite for the first time and it definitely lived up to the hype. Scenes seemed to change multiple times during the day with different lighting - It is someplace I definitely look forward to visiting again. All with the XP1 and Fuji 14
