Re: Fun with the Fuji X ___!

Here are a few portraits I did with the XP2 + xf 56mm F1.2 R APD in the studio. Because the studio was dark, the lens focus was a bit slow for my shooting style and was set to MF mode. Overall I enjoyed using it, but hope the XP2 firmware upgrade due out in October might help with the auto-focus sensitivity. The young people pictured are part of my first year, first semester commercial photography students. Yes, commercial photography is still being taught and there continues to be a small crowd of passionate shooters hoping to get into the profession.

Re: Fun with the Fuji X ___!

Hurricane Hermine came for a visit the other night. What a night, with wind ravages sounding like a tornado at times. I was a bit lucky and a bit unlucky when compared to the neighbors. Everyone has property debris cleanup and many have roof damage. Our neighbor across the street had *three* trees hit his house and my luck is I only had one tree uprooted (water oak) and fall across the kitchen and garage and extend into the driveway. We definitely have roof damage and possibly truss damage . But, the power is finally back on and no one reported any injuries, so I am happy! I had cabin fever earlier today when power was still out, so off I went to a favorite small Georgia town. I have photographed this fire truck before but with an infrared Sigma SD1. I love the Fuji and the 14mm. Hope everyone is doing well and for those of you affected by Hermine, may peace be with you! My insurance adjuster is due here on Monday.

    X-Pro2, 35 mm f/1.4, ISO 6400, f/5.6, 1/250th, Iridient, Pro-Neg Hi. Auto-ISO was set to go as high as 6400 with lowest SS 1/250.
Not that this is any way a work of art but I might re-process this with the in-camera converter and then get them both printed just to see. Of course there's noise at 100% but ...

    Re:Trying out the XF 16/1.4

Just got a nearly-new 16 for my X-Pro2 and took it for a walk. It has great contrast, sharp to the corners, works well very close, and even focuses fast. A lot to like.

I just returned from our vacation and what a pleasant present waiting for me. So I thought to try some test shots. My new XT 2 with the 55-200mm lens at 200 mm.. ISO 12800. This is a small section of the native 16x25 inch image. It is PP'd in my normal way. The resulting crop is 8x8 inches approximately. One of our Turkish Van cats, Leonard Cohen. I am surprised that the 12800 ISO is usable. I cannot imagine using it much, but I did some tests at 6400 and it is clean with a bit of NR. At 800 ISO which to me is a very usable ISO I could find very little noise to reduce. I do a lot of urban landscape and 800-1600 ISO is often my ISO of choice. The XT 1 did fine in that range, so does my Nikon d800 but i like the higher MP's so I suspect that for some of my travel the XT 2 will supplant the Nikon system that I really like. Except for the weight that is. I also tested the 100-400mm lens hand held in the garden I am just looking at the RAW files in LR and I now want to tripod mount the damned thing and shoot side by side with the d800 and see how much difference there is really.

    Scott,

incredibly great colors and sharpness - typical for what this new Fuji 24MP sensor can deliver!

The 2/35 seems to be a winner too - somehow on my list of Fuji lenses to buy

My unplanned attempt at a Hollywood portrait. At the end of a shoot I was reminded of this article on Hollywood portraits with really hard light that I read a couple of days prior to the shoot. Thought I'd give it a go and I am very pleased with the result.

On Mt. Cadillac in Acadia National Park. X Pro2, 14mm (I should get another lens today--23mm, f2). New camera for me and just trying to get a sense of how far you can push it and how it sees the world. In reality, there is very little light here--you would not want to drop your car keys.
