Hi All,
I could use a bit of fatherly guidance from the experts out there.
I have the X-Pro1 and a couple of lenses.
Shooting mainly for fun, not for sale. End use is 99% web, but I have the desire every now and then to print a picture. In the past with my Sony a700 I have shot the Sony RAW, and produced a TIFF, and had that printed.
Now with the Fuji I am faced with everyone telling me how good the JPEG's are, and also "patchy" use of LR4 to produce a DNG.
In a month we are off to Europe for a 5 week stint, and the Fuji is accompanying. Last time we were there ( 5 years ago) I carted a Canon 20D and 17-40L around, and just shot JPEG's. Very few made it to prints, and most were simply mementos of the trip. (not due to quality though).
This time I want to decide before I go, RAW or JPEG, or RAW+JPEG. It makes a difference to storage for a start.
So, oh knowledgeable ones, when you have printed from the X-Pro1, what size(s) have you been happy with, from the JPEG's? I realize "happy" is a subjective thing, but I also hear of X-Pro users using the camera for commercial use with JPEG's as an end result.
Any "gotchas" I should take into account as well.
Safe option is shoot RAW, but if JPEG's are good to say 20x16, then why bother.
Unless I have it wrong, my Fine JPEG's are about 5.5mb, and the RAW's about 25mb.
Appreciate any input.
Gary
