F/S Leica DMR/9

I don't think Jack has any R glass left. He did comment that my harbor shot printed at the workshop was the most detailed print he has ever seen out of a M8. Except it was shot with a DMR and 50mm Summicron :)

Coming back to my senses -- after all I do have a relatively new Mamiya ZD to learn more about ;)

Boy Do I sympathsize! I have no idea how long it is going to take me to get used to the Hassy V system even given its implicit simplicity. I only know that for my landscapes, which I want to print larger that 30 by X, MF is the only way to go. My M8 files hold up really well to 22x30 but that kind of pushes the limits.

Yea, and some folks think that Marc needs to be slapped for his outrageous "camera porn" that he displays here :ROTFL::D

I am waiting for all the Blad stuff to show up here when Marc decides a Hy6 is what he needs:)

Or, having all the Blad stuff show up whenever Mamiya starts shipping AF leaf shutter lenses for the ZD/PhaseOne camera, allowing a focal plane and leaf shutter option in one camera that can take great glass. That could even give pause to the Hy6, but the Hy6 still allows WLF that some folks really like to use. Lots of interesting times ahead ;)

Ain't gonna happen lads. I've been to Hell in a handbasket getting my gear closet in order. My H3D-II/39 gives me the AF speed I need, access to all the Zeiss CFi/CFE lenses I already own, WLF for low shots, Excellent new software, use of the back on a view camera with its access to a full range of Digitar optics. If I want a ALPA eventually, it'll work on that also.

It is only out of sentimental reasons I want a digital back for the focal plane 203FE system I already own. I need it like another hole in my head. It won't earn me one single penny more. But it's paid for, and the lenses can be used on the Leica, Canon and Nikon DSLRs ... and I still shoot film with the 203FE and scan on a 949 with VERY satisifying results.

So, I'm in a "wait and see" mode right now. Unless a good deal comes up on a Sinar back for my 203FE ... I'll wait

Marc,
Just messing with you on this  I do understand what you are saying about the H3D II/39 and its range of capabilities and optics. No reason to move away from that at all. The FP option on the 203FE does "satisfy" most needs for that application also, if you really do need it.

Some of these shots at you were more for some of our own desire to take advantage of your gear closet clean-outs :D You have/had some great stuff that you have been cleaning out to align your systems and gear to best meet your evolving needs/uses.

I would wonder if there will be an adapter to use CFE lenses on the new AFD III. I am waiting to learn about this as the only other reasonable cost alternative is a used 203 FE to get the higher shutter speeds, metering etc/.

If anyone knows about the Mamiya,CFE lens possibility let me know.

Thanks

Obviously I will also entertain other options as available. But the 203 FE is my current outlook.

It's a Mamiya mount, so all Hasselblad to Mamiya adapters will work. I used CF, CFi,CFE and FE lenses on a Mamiya 645 all the time prior to selling the Mamiya kit.

The question will be if the AF confirmation will work with all three AF points of the AFD-III ... I suspect it will ... so off center compostions will be possible without repositionaing the camera as much.

You can also mount all the Hasselblad/Zeiss lenses on a Contax 645 body. Zeiss actually made an adapter specifically to do that: MAM-1 (I think). Also had that when I shot a C645. In viewfinder focus confirmation also.

Neither one comes close to the clarity and brightness of the 203FE viewfinder with a Waist Level or PM45 finder. Plus you do not have to stop down meter and shoot with the 203FE.

As I understand it, Mamiya is offering an adapter for the new AFDIII that will allow the use of Hassy CF lenses much like the current Hassy H to CF adapter does on Hassy. This of course in addition to their own set of Mamiya leaf-shutter lenses designed to be fully integrated with the AFDIII. Pretty cool I think that Mamiya clearly understands the needs and wants of it's users...

but Jack..arent you forgetting that if a lens doesn't have the 'Zeiss' imprimatur' it is clearly rubbish?

I love the in built 'arb' which going against popular and usually wrong opinion provides. Mamiya is dead according to internet chat sites over the last few years..therefore you can pick up any number of 'dead' lenses for next to nothing..:ROTFL: - wait isnt that what you are doing??

Hey, quit giving away my secrets!!! :ROTFL:

Good news is I already have a really complete selection of Mamiya glass. Add in a few select LS lenses and the AFDIII when it comes out and I will be a pretty happy camper!

Sick puppy that I am there is a 203FE in my very near future. Price + $500 for Hassy to make it compatible with the CFV back.
