i'm thinking of trying my hand at some macro work, something i have not done before.
my preference is to use the 45 macro from panasonic but i don't want to pay $800. plus right now.

so, i'm thinking a nice macro from olympus or minolta or ? and the appropriate adapter would do for a nice simple start.

if you have something that would fit this please let me know.

The Olympus ZD 35mm f/3.5 Macro and the Panasonic DMW-MA1 mount adapter would do you nicely. 1:1 magnification, integrates nicely with the G1 in all modes (but does not AF), and it's amazingly sharp even wide open. The only negatives I've found are it has a bit simple barrel distortion (easily corrected in PS) and a small bit of chromatic aberration (again, easily corrected in Camera Raw or Lightroom).

The lens is available new for around $185 and outperforms most of anything else I've found in this class. It is a wonderful short-portrait tele choice as well as being an excellent landscape lens.

Presuming the focal length fits what you're intending to shoot (longer lenses are better for insects, small 3D objects, etc), it does wonderful macro work.

B&H has them for $198. I paid $185 for mine in 2007 so that's probably the going rate now. Great lens. :)

they had a refurb for 159. so i bought it, along with a panasonic adapter.
even with conversion and shipping it was about 160 bucks less than local.

thanks for help.

Have a DMW-MA1 genuine Lumix adapter for Olympus 4/3 lenses, mint condition, $95 shipped from Oklhoma.
