It's the first version of the ASPH not the newer (all newer are coded).

Yes, this is the first version of the ASPH. I think it renders in a less clinical way than the new lens.

Any focus shift exhibited on this particular copy?

I never noticed any. I would shoot a lot at night (on film), wide open, slow shutter speeds and still get sharp photos. It's a great lens if you have your technique down.
