Apple's Year Ahead: Slashing Mac Prices to Boost Market Share?

Hank,
Doubt they'll slash the price of the higher end units which is what many of us around here wind up with. It would be nice to pick up a new Mac Book Pro for around $1k :)

I agree that the price cuts will likely occur in the entry level machines. However, the price of the Quad 2.8 Mac Pro is not all that bad compared to similar PC units -- actually less expensive than other name brands. The 8-core machines get pricier and the fastest one demands a significant (and inappropriate) premium, but still not out of the league of the top end PC's.

Laptops are more and more the default consumer choice. You are probably right that workstations probably won't be affected -I hadn't thought of that :( But laptop prices including the 17" power laptops whose biggest market is probably gamers should definitely be seeing more competitive pricing.
