Toning B&W images

ive been getting some really "gray" images and im looking for some tips or info about how transform them into really nice B&W images.

i think this is commonly referred to as toning, but i dont really know how to do it.

any tips or links to learn?

no, it adds color to the image and should be printed in color. here's an example of the type i described above - warmed highlights and cooled shadows.

I tone at the printing stage. Depending on your printer setup sometimes you can change the tone there (for example, Epson's Advanced Black and White mode). I use dedicated black and white inks with the toners in the printer.
