In view there is a show focus points ,

Does it do anything on your system ? or do I expect something different from what it really is ?

How do you use it ?

I can't find anything in help

It may be a system specific thing where it gets picked up in the data. I am not showing the point in A900 files but can see it in a Panasonic m4/3 file. I do think this is going to be helpful is assessing focus.
