Splotchy dark areas of the image???

Hi folks

What to do to fix splotchiness of dark areas at the image?
I don't mean dust spots or noise, these are much larger areas
(sensor problem?).
I've tried blur, noise+median and the usual ways but the result is dull.
That's because the radius-value must be big before the problem is fixed.

Here's the picture - I've over-exposured the zoomed area so you can
see what I mean.

Pleease, I'm frustrated :banghead: :)

What camera and which raw processor?

Capture One tends to do a stellar job avoiding low-frequency noise, and instead translating it into high frequency film-like grain.

Often the differences between raw processors can be negligable. However, with high ISOs, long exposures, mixed lighting and tungsten light (effective high ISO for the under exposed channel), and with images with lots of high frequency detail (e.g. landscapes with grass / rock-texture) the difference can be amazing.

Some processors to try would be Capture One 4.8.1, Lightroom 2, Irrident Raw Developer, Bibble Pro. I think (especially in difficult situations like this) that Capture One does the best job, but I'm openly biased, and in any case you should do the testing for yourself.

If you do get a chance to try another raw processor or two I would ask you post the results to the forum so we can all benefit from your findings.

Otherwise I think you will have a VERY hard time correcting this after the initial raw conversion. Low frequency noise ("blotchiness") is much better addressed at the time of conversion.

Camera for that picture was 400D (nowadays I have 5DM2) and
raw-prosessor was LR2. Got to try something else.
Values are ISO-100 (to get colors) and exp.time 30 sec.

I'll let you know if I find some ways to correct.
Word "low-frequency noise" was new word for me :)
