Geoff, They are both beautiful, but I like the punched-up version best.

Bebert, Nice series. #8 is my favorite. There is a lot to explore in that photo.

Bebert - I love #3 in the first set, and #3 and #5 in the second set. Great work!

Re: More and more fun with M8 images

I recently visited Galloway in Scotland with my M8. I created a panorama from four M8 & 35mm Summilux images.

Here is the result :

A few days later I "discovered" Nik Colour Effex Pro and downloaded the trial version. Here is the same image with a bit of attention to the sky and the addition of a polarising filter effect :

I have to say, I like the enhanced version but it somehow feels wrong. What do others think?
Geoff - I prefer the second version (enhanced). It has far more interest for me - especially the sky.

If you were going to use the first version, I think you'd want to crop out some of the sky to keep the interest on the water.

You certainly have a way with that "vintage" glass!

Beautiful image... looks 3D!

As for higher ISOs on the M8, I find that processing them in Capture One seems to work best for me.

You're getting it dialed in Helen! As for low light and the M8, I don't do that much of it, but I think what you need is fast glass, a steady hand, and a willingness to see the beauty of what it does best as more than enough compensation for its less-than-stellar low light ability.

Best,
Tim

Hi Helen,

An M8?????

Congratulations!

Regarding 1250 and 2500 on the M8 I actually find both very usable. Are you using C1? If you ensure that the darks are actually exposed and not off the histogram you should be fine. Try the auto ISO perhaps, this seems to use the higher ISOs earlier than you otherwise might. I will dig out some example when I am on my home PC. In very low light try the C mode with long exposure times and the second shot is often very sharp as the first absorbed the shock of the shutter press.

Congratulations once again!

Helen -- cool, you're getting used to focusing -- beautiful!

not to dissuade people from giving you tips but, the more i see, the more i remain staunch in my belief that the R-D1 has better high ISO. it very likely has to do with 6mp v. 10mp.... have you tried the Auto-ISO on the M8? (wasn't that a firmware update?) sometimes you can get away with a much lower ISO than you think you need.
