Luminous Landscape Leica X1 Field Review

For $900 less you can get a Lumix G1, GH1 and GF1 and a superb f1.7 40mm optic (which with Panasonic's very fast contrast AF focuses far faster than the X1) that more than compensates for the lower noise at ISO's higher than 800 you need the X1 for.

I was surprised to read that MR felt the X1 and M9 put in a similar performance at ISO 1600+. I haven't been impressed with M9 high ISO, and I thought that any camera supposedly featuring the Sony sensor from the D300/90/5000 would walk all over the M9 beyong ISO 1600.

Don't get me wrong - I know high ISO isn't everything, and if I had the $$, I would be on a list somewhere for my M9!

Perhaps when you take the 18mp of the M9 and reduce the file down in size to match the 12mp of the X1 you are approx the same.

MR completely forgot to evaluate the cameras against one another in the "useful as a fashion accessory" category.
My "Fashion Accessory" ranking is this:
1. X1
2. EP-1 (if the chrome is not worn off)
3. GF1
4. GF1 with EVF
5. GH1 (looks too much like a shrunken canikon)

If this is significant to one's evaluation, it might well sway one's decision.
Casio vs Rolex debates anyone?

you forgot to rank the GXR -- the ugly duckling most likely to find it's way into my arms :p

Not to be confused with jewelry, the GXR is a serious secret-agent tool perfect for the Femme Fatale
In understated matte black it goes well with Ninja-style outfits but can complement a sleek evening gown at Le Casino de Monte-Carlo.
Its design philosophy is inspired by Q (the guy, not M the camera)
Perfect for you, Cam

p.s.
No doubt, a night vision lens unit can be expected but distribution will be exclusively via the usual arms suppliers.

Yep, An X1 will go perfectly with my Breitling Cosmonaute. :p

One must retain one's fashion sense.

Actually, the GF1 goes very well with my Ulysse Nardin GMT. The black against the rose gold is a nice compliment.

ooh, i swoon at anything rose gold!

almost considered a limited edition Hexar AF just because... turned out to be more of a rose silver anyways. bah humbug! now if had been platinum to match my anniversary edition Montblanc with sapphire dials and trompe l'oil face...
