I just got my black (circa 1984) Leitz 50mm Summicron M back from Malcolm Taylor, the UK Leica repair specialist and wanted to mention here what a superb job he did.

I wanted the lens 6 bit coded and a CLA done on it.

The 6 bit coding job was done to perfection.

In addition he has serviced the focus mount to remove play and improve focus, cleaned optics, fixed a problem with loose diaphragm and re-blacked the rear of the mount.

Very reasonable price and quickly done.

Previously I was having focus issues with the lens, it is such a delight now.

For those that do not know, here are Malcolm's details:

[I have no association other than a very satisfied customer].

David,
If you don't mind, could you let me know how much an independent Leica repair person would charge and the approximate turn-around-time, please? Just for comparison purposes and out of pure curiosity to what his counterpart or counterparts on the other side of the pond would do in both aspects. If you don't want to do it publicly, would you mind sending that info to me via PM then?

Thanks!

Thanks Chris...Hmm...I am not in UK... Also, I think I saw it somewhere but that one does not work.

I can second this recommendation. He got my wobbly, close focussing 35mm Summilux pre-asph into great shape. That was after another reputable repairer had failed to do likewise after two attempts.
