6-bit coding

Do all newer lenses have the 6-bit coding? I thought I saw a summicron 35 asph that didn't have the black/white dots on the rear...

Depends on when the lens was manufactured. The 35 asph cron was released prior to the M8 and those lenses would not have been coded. Many people sent them in for coding but not all. For instance I just sent a 75 cron to Leica for coding today. That lens was made right on the cusp of the change over to all being coded.

All newly-produced Leica lenses should have 6-bit coding. (I'm not sure where you located this "new" Cron 35 ASPH.)
