Re: S Is For Show Us Your S2 Shots

Yes, Kurt, I like the Carl Zeiss Planar 80/2 a lot more than the Mamiya 80/1.9 for that reason. Credits go to you, to have me inspired to try the Mamiya lens (first on Mamiya bodies), finally leading me to the S2.

Here is another lens used on the S2 body - a Schneider-Kreuznach 80/2.8 Xenotar in Exakta 66 mount - this lens really shook me (I didn't expect it to be THAT good).

This is my new favourite manual focus normal lens. It is the 80 mm, I tried the Hasselblad 80/2.8 CFE to be but it never sparked me. This Xenotar though did it from the first time, I saw how it behaves.

Dirk, how do you get this lens adapted to the S?

Peter, this is fairly easy - Russian made Pentacon Six/ Kiew adapters are readily available (auction site or local shops).

I use a P6 to Mamiya adapter, but there are also adapters to Contax 645.

Here is a shot taken in March last year in the port of Marin, Martinique, during a tropical downpour. I reprocessed it in B&W today. S2 with Summarit 70.

Very nice Dirk! Well executed with good pre-focussing, thanks for sharing.

Re: S Is For Show Us Your S2 Shots

Thanks Peter! Yes pre-focussing with the adapted long lenses on the S2 is mandatory to get used to ;-) It was great fun to go a couple decades back, normally shooting this with AF Nikkors, but well worth it.
The S2 sensor at base ISO and with a lens long enough really delivers! It looks so much different from the Nikon files.

Here is some more, I think all shot @ 600mm with the 300/2.8 + TC:

S2 + 120mm. For a subject like this this lens hunts like the devil. Manual focus relying on the focus indicator works way better.

I saw this tree several times when riding MTB...today I finally walked up there and took some images.
I am not sure if b&w or color is better?
I now try to post the images with a link to flickr and hope for better sharpness.

Tom, I too see this softness appear in images when I post here. Don't know what it is, but it's certainly keeping me from posting more often.
Anyway, I like the color version best, more depth in the image. Oh well, it's all personal preference ...

Visited Carrie Furnaces a couple of months ago. Just posted images on my website: Rudlin Fine Art under galleries->portfolios->carrie furnaces

These were taken with the S2 using 70 and 120 mm lenses. Processed via CS6 and NIK plugins. Raw conversion via LR5.

    Enjoy and thanks for looking!

Yes, I have the same problem and mentioned it a while ago, in one of my postings under the Fun with digital M. I think it may be because the GetDPI site is not retina optimised. On a "retina-aware" site, when you upload images, you essentially have to upload them twice the size in order to look good and then the code in the site needs to show them at the intended (half) size. That is assuming you use a retina MBP. The images look fine here when I view them on a normal screen. My site (www.openeyesphoto.com) is retina-aware (it's a function of Sandvox, the little piece of software that I use to edit the page) and when I view it on the rMBP, the pictures look sharp. When I copy the image addresses from my site to postings here, they look unsharp on the rMBP (but OK on a normal screen).

    Another is on its way...

All the talk about CMOS made me run some old files....and I know that entering in at the S2 level will be much easier than anything new....

Just need to inventory what I need to sacrifice for the return.
