HI Marc,I spoke with Lloyd Chambers about this lens before I bought it and he shrewdly predicted that the extra element (compared to the 35mm) and slight drop in speed was a sign that this lens would be a stellar performer, even by S standards..

I am very happy with it,considering the Zoom now for portability ,it's nice to be able to put a body and one lens in a bag and have most scenes covered.

The only Trouble I have doing night shots is getting clinically sharp focus, and the introduction of live view on the next S would be tempting for this reason alone providing the colour rendering doesn't suffer.. (I have to say the H4D AF is more accurate at night)

I'm considering bring a Macbook pro next time for tethered shooting, this would be nearly as good as live view if a little more inconvenient, and cheaper than a new S ;-)

Some others (still 24mm only) of the WWII remains, always submerged by the mot respectful feelings when visiting those places.

Interesting black & whites anGy! Last month, I wachted 'saving private Ryan' again and these days I'm binge-watching 'the second worldwar in HD color'. The sheer magnitude of this terrible event, I find almost impossible to comprehend.

Marc, Rob, could you eleborate a bit on why you find the 45 so stunning? Such a classification coming from you guys, who own quite a few S lenses, must really mean someting ...

I haven't posted many shots lately so I thought that I'd add a few to the cue. When using the S2, I've been mostly using it to document the people and the life in the narrow barrio streets and alleyways here in Manila.

Hi there Bob - loving your photos mate - keep posting!
I've been busy building a new home over the last year or so having embraced middle age with a gusto - I have been to my offices in Melbourne maybe (only) 7 times this Calendar year - great to be able to just take off and do 'stuff' - the troops can do their stuff- frankly I am over 16 hour days staring at Bloomberg screens..

As for photography - it has had to take a back seat for a while as I have been occupied with farm activities chopping wood planting trees and keeping foxes at bay..

Thanks for your kind words - I'll post some of my 'journal' diary stuff and contribute to the thread with pics from down under - you and others are doing such a good job !

I don't have any S lenses except for the magnificent 70mm - so far I am very happy with the 40 CFE IF I picked up from Marc Williams - years ago - it is a cracker of a lens. I'll try the 180 / 150 / 120MacroPlanar and of course the 100FE 2 and post.

    Pete,

Foxes are favored around our house as we have nothing at risk from their presence..they represent all that is wild, good and in a sense beautiful within our limited sphere...

Feed daily from a community bowl on the back porch...

Here are a couple of pics from the weekend...

    Pete,

I am amazed that Marc gave up one of the best of the older Hasselblad lenses...the 40 CFE is legendary...at least in the company of my peers...

The other lens that is a standout is the 100FE 2.0 little matches it.....

New house...new focus all good...amazing how our previous world prospers without our constant oversight and input.

    Kurt....

You set the bar at such a high level...

These portraits show such dignity and strength of character...there is a quiet deeply spiritual quality in the majority of these portraits...seems like the more mean the circumstance the more profound the faith.

And alway nice to see your world ...

Thanks for the kind comment, Bob. The people here are amazing. I honestly feel more welcome in the neighborhoods of the barrios I walk than many of the streets I wandered down in the west. I'm in awe of the strength, resilience and zest for life that I encounter each day ... they continue to teach me a lot about myself.

    Can't keep EVERYTHING Bob …

That 40IF is an outstanding optic for sure. I originally got it at a promotional price when buying some other piece of gear. I tested it against the previous 40 and there was no comparison. A bit of distortion easily corrected in post.

My drive with the S system was to have all leaf-shutter lenses … the most recent being the CS-45/2.8, so that focal length is now covered.

Good to here from Peter A. Much missed voice on the forum.

After this past "Winter of the Century", I just secured a second home in a warmer climate.

So no more camera gear for a good while. More like divest, than invest going forward … but the S is immune to purges. I'll be able to make photos more months each year now, and new territory will spur that on I'm sure. Nothing like a change of venue to motive new explorations.

Re: S Is For Show Us Your S2 Shots

Yes I figured that the 45 CS would be a good replacement for the 40...after seeing pictures it will most likely be my next S lens.

Congratulations on the new home! Seems like most everyone in Michigan either flees or acquires a second property if they do not want to give up the glorious summers and falls.

I agree that much else can change but the S system will stay as long as I am in any way serious about photography and I cannot see that changing anytime soon.

Here are few from this morning's walk with Hasselblad 250/5,6 SA, 150/4 CFi, Summarit-S 70, and Summarit-S 35. The last one was also printed this afternoon (20x30) and the IQ is pretty good.

Thought I would keep the post going. I took a walk in Downtown LA a couple of weeks ago in weird weather for LA. We had some monsoon weather with high clouds, and the light was quite different. Here are a few images from that walk. All images were taken with the S2 with the 24mm lens.

erlingmm: I´d like to see some side to side comparison of 100/2 with Hasselblad HC 100/2.2 on f/2.2

kimyeesan: Great shots in your post #1889, I like especially the first portrait with 70 CS, which f-stop did you use?
    Thanks, Mark

Incredible! Awesome! My goodness, it's like I was going through some of my old racing books. 5 stars.

Re: S Is For Show Us Your S2 Shots

Almost 4 years ago, fellow GetDPI member paratom sent me a PM that his Leica dealer in German had a S2 for sale at an attractive price (that was when these cameras were difficult to find). A couple of weeks later, my wife and I met Tom and his family when I picked up my S2 at his dealer. In the years that followed, I spent a small fortune at that dealer.

Two weeks a ago, Tom sent me an email that his dealer had an S(006) again at a very attractive price. Here is the proof that my new toy has arrived (no: its not a copy of my latest bank statement First shot is of my patient and understanding wife--both as a model and as a supporter of my purchases; the second of our less patient dog, who btw is still way to fast for the improved autofocus .

Anyway, I could not be happier with the new S. Thanks again, Tom, for having pointed me to that offer.

The only sad thing is that my trusted S2 will soon appear on the WTS section of this site. I really can't justify two bodies.

Re: S Is For Show Us Your S2 Shots

    Hi Georg,

So, what is your feedback about the improvements with S 006 ? I am hesitating between a used S2/S2-P and a new S 006 with a "promotional" price (before the S-E comes). But, even at a special price, the S 006 remains much more expensive. So, is this extra money worth spending? I am wondering if a S2/S2-P with the latest firmware just released by Leica would not be that behind...

As a Hasselblad user, I am also hesitating with the H5D-40, which is currently offered at a promotional price by Hasselblad (rebate of 38%!!)...

    Thanks for sharing your opinion.

Re: S Is For Show Us Your S2 Shots

Thomas, I think it's a very personal thing. Whether the difference between the two cameras is worth the extra money depends on what you shoot, how often you shoot, how much you would pay for an S2 and an S (006), how much disposable money you have etc. When the S (006) came out, I decided that the difference was not worth the extra money and I held that view until I received an offer for a S (006) which was simply too good to refuse (and because I don't see myself buying the S (007). At just the promotion rebate of 4k Euros off the normal list price, I would not have bought the S (006).

I have used the S (006) only one afternoon and don't have enough experience to form a view how much better it is. The autofocus feels faster, but then again the S2 has recently improved quite significantly and the S (006) still is not anywhere close to a Canikon. So all is relative. And I have been very happy with my S2.

I think that Marc is now shooting with both cameras and he may have a more informed view.

Can't comment on the Hasselblad, but it seems a different beast altogether.
