When the lathe is running a program, that turret rotates to put the correct tool in position (and it rotates FAST), and then the entire turret and slide whizzes up to the work about as fast as you could move your hand from side to side. The turret and slide must weigh 1200 lbs and it will hold 0.0005" tolerance
    Amazing machine

Can someone please tell me how to post full size images on this size? Every image I post gets downsized by the system effectively turning razor sharp images into smartphone quality images.

    Thanks in advance

Re: S Is For Show Us Your S2 Shots

Okay... just discovered images are limited to 2400px which I uploaded but images still appear to be compressed with no control over the compression quality.

So I've had the camera just over 12 hours and havnt tried anything serious, just having fun testing the quality of the files including dynamic range sharpness etc... 30-90mm at 30mm F8 11 seconds. The starbursts are beautiful and the quality is just jaw dropping. These uploads don't do it justice!!!

I've straightened and cropped in photoshop.

Re: S Is For Show Us Your S2 Shots

Try 1200 px on the long side landscape and 800 portrait with your own
downsizing and the compression may be less apparent.

An older S2-P Leica but to show how 1200 works...

For me color, its more subtile.
BW is a little stronger, but I prefer the emotion of the color image.

I agree that with this cropping the color is a bit better ... however the foreground lightness - reflection of the clouds
does not benefit the B&W which is superb.

Perhaps a crop like this is what I imagined for B&W ...

    Morning

After a crazy busy couple of months here I'm ready for a couple of weeks off! It's feeling pretty wintry here, hovering around -20 for the last few days, perfect!

Here in Stockholm we have +10 today so no winter feeling here. I envy you even if -20 is a little to cold, -5 and some snow would be nice though.

That's like summer Joakim! We have lots of snow now and temperatures are up today, only around -5 now so looking forward to it getting a little colder again. Hopefully you will get some snow, not much chance of a white christmas though I guess.

Here's another from the last week.

    Cheers

    Thanks Skimmel

It was just the 70mm on the 007, tricky because the fire was the only light, shot at ISO800, great camera!

Hope everyone had a good christmas day.

    Morning

Something a bit different from my normal shots, a commission for a series of 6 prints for a client who had a very specific idea of what they wanted from the shots, not what I would have normally done as I'm not a big fan of heavier processing but the client is extremely happy so I guess that's all that matters!

A shot from yesterday, just some few minutes walk from where I live. Unfortunately, my beloved Leica S 006 failed just after this image. The focal shutter failed after some horrible mechanical noise coming from the mechanism. The camera is now on its way to Germany.... what a great start of the new year.

    Jesus and a Roman

One of a series of publicity shots taken today for the Passion Play this Easter at Gloucester Cathedral. They'll be using the colour shots, but I'm showing the black and white versions - colour photography hadn't been invented in 30-34 AD

Although the Shroud of Turin ... memory serves ... more sepia than silver.

Lovely photo ... when our daughter was in Oxford we always visited during Easter ... too many wonderful performances and Evensong
to attend. And a few days in front of the fire at the Lamb Inn in Burford before a return to this side of the pond.

    Regards,

    Bob

    Bob,

Sounds like you had a great time, when your daughter was in Oxford. I know the Lamb in Burford well. It's where my wife, Sue, and I went during her first pregnancy. She was overdue and later that evening, she went into labour for our first son, Alex

    What a wonderful story ...

I love the pub and the Kat Lightfoot paintings that set the tone for the place.

I studied theology for a year at Regents Park Oxford in 1975 after completing a BA Chemistry in the states in three years ... returned to the states to do a MD and specialized in Cardiac Anesthesia. Some 34 years later have
retired from the practice due to politics ....

My daughter has just submitted her D Phil dissertation in History of Art ... so we all will probably be visiting for her Viva and if successful her subsequent
    graduation.

We may visit Burford or try Upper Slaughter.

    Regards,

    Bob

    Bob,

Which college is she at? You'll enjoy her graduation at the Sheldonian - mind you, the seats are hard benches and steeply raked. I'm sure she'll look great in her scarlet gown and bonnet (I had one of those when I got my DPhil in 2000).

Cardiac anaesthesia - I remember that. I was a cardiac surgery resident in Oxford in the early 90s. I seem to remember it was a large slug of fentanyl - nothing too fancy

PS contact me when you come over. It would be great to meet up for a drink.

    Charlie
