Amazing shot and amazing way to start the page!

A few shots from our trip downtown today! Walked around, ate Japadogs (hot dogs with Japanese-style toppings), rented 14 movies, and got some film developed! I'm hoping to either find a few shadow positions at architecture firms around Vancouver, or a job at a camera or pet store! Going to drop off a few resumes tomorrow :P

    Gary: Thank you, much appreciated.

Patrick: Thank you as well. Very nice pic of Hilary, however, the shot of the older gentleman is one of your best ever. Really nice!

mdwsta4, brewery tours always seemed kinda fun to me... a little pricey but fun That last shot is my favourite too! Great set :P

Rob, I saw your Zoo photos on flickr... made me want to take the plunge for that elmarit. I've been having trouble getting enough reach on my M8, it'd be nice to have a telephoto for those times I need the reach... though Hillary reminded me it'd be a bad idea to purchase a lens I won't be using often for that much money... especially when I don't have a stead source of income yet! Gonna save up the money and spend it on a pair of matching watches. We want gold watches!

Rayyan, where are these photos taken? It seems like such a lovely place... I want to go there!

    Thank you Mike!

Patrick: How many megapixels are those gold watches? Please post the pix from them in the Gold Watch thread!

Thank you. I've found most brewery tours to be free free actually. Obviously they want you to buy their beers later, but nearly every one I've been on throughout the country has been free followed by free samples after the tour.

Good stuff, Michael... you handsome devil, you. Love the bokeh in that flowers shot.

Love those old Summitars. I have one my father bought new, in Germany in 1946.

Haha nice to see you here Lloyd! I finally figured out how to post images here (thanks for the tip). How cool that you have one of your father's lenses...purchased directly in Germany no less! Mine is from '51, which is the year of my father's birth, so I have a tiny connection there.

I absolutely adore this lens. I have a project in mind that I'll be following through with soon. Very excited. It'll be much more interesting that my latest stuff (i.e. me)

A few shots to share around my mom's apartment...

The first one, I think epitomizes the relationship between my son and my mom. From the way she looks at him, I think she probably loves him more than I do. He, however, completely takes her for granted

Then.. just some shots around the complex:

Michael, the summitar is one of my favourite lenses... mine's all beat and old though, I want a replacement! Nice photo My girlfriend and I think you look kinda like Ben Stiller, but with more facial hair and a tad more attractive. We just watched Zoolander last night...

David, it always brings a smile to my face when I see photos of your family... Iunno, photos of loved ones are always good

Mohammed, Hillary and I were editing photos the other day and we decided to take a shot at your editing style (which we're both a fan of). Didn't quite turn out like yours, but we got close! Great photos from the pride day, the last two are my favourite!

mdwsta (is there a name I could refer to you by?), most of the brewery tours in toronto cost a little, but come with a 'complimentary' 12 pack and 2 pints of beer... which the fee pays for. Sucks huh? Great set

Took a trip to the space center yesterday, it's kinda dated... very 70's. We watched a show in the planetarium about constellations... the only thing I learned was that it's impossible to see constellations without people outlining them for you. It's a wonder that they were used as navigation tools! We took a walk by the beach on our way home... there are beaches everywhere. The beaches (and people on the beach) are much more beautiful here than they are in Toronto. The water is cleaner, the sand is nicer... the view is amazing! I wish I took more photos that day... but I felt a little lazy.

Hillary landing a space shuttle! She's really good at it...

I also seem to have caught a Panorama bug lately... this one's better viewed in large...

David: Nice shots around your Mom's apartment. That first one is a very special image.
Rayyan: Another nice shot of the always lovely Ayesha. And that shot from Morocco really does look like it could be from a Greek island. Wonderful color (esp. the blue) in that other shot. Love the processing, very timeless, of the mosque.
Andrew: Those shots from Shanghai are terrific. LOVE that third one in particular.
Mohammad: Fun stuff from the Pride parade.
Matt: Nice shots from CA. Very thirsty stuff! Nice work.
Patrick: Nice Seattle set. You guys never have any fun, do you?

Great stuff Patrick! Actually, you're one of the reasons why I ended up with a Summitar! I got lucky - mine is gorgeous! Oh, and the shot of your Lady's feet - totally awesome. I love that one.

Great stuff everyone...I look forward to posting some more photography after the weekend.

Until then, here's my old girl!

    re: Fun w/Digital M Images

Lloyd, we were still in Vancouver! But we're planning a trip for Seattle next weekend I'd like to think we can have fun!

Moh, It'd be great to get a few editing tips from you :P Your processing style is great! I always find myself wondering how you get such nicely balanced shots in harsh sunlight... thats something I can't do.

Michael, that's a lovely Summitar... I wish I had one in that condition! I think I'll pick up another copy someday, something in a better shape, if I had extra money to burn!

I think I might pick up an "ugly" condition 90/4 elmar this week from KEH... $60, can't really beat that price for a lens I'm not planning to use often! I've been captivated by film point and shoots lately... I bought an Olympus Mju-II Zoom 80 (Stylus Epic Zoom 80) yesterday and had quite a blast with it! Though, Hillary's right, it's a waste of money when I have a fully functioning Olympus XA.

Anyway, I shot this roll last week...

And I met another stranger that day... Aihara!

Aihara approached me and Hillary at the Bridgeport Canada Line station in Vancouver (the Canada Line is their equivalent of a subway system) with a big smile on his face, asking us about our cameras. We decided to shoot some medium format that day, she had her Rolleicord and I had my Autocord.

"6cm by 6cm right?" he asked, "I used to own one when I was a kid!" I told him I almost bought a 4x4, but I went with 6x6 so that Hillary and I could shoot the same film this summer. Aihara mentioned that Rolleiflexes went for a lot back in the day. I told him that I was using a Minolta Autocord, which cost much less, $200. Aihara laughed at the price, then said "Japanese knock off, very good!" The train arrived and we hopped on together.

Aihara is a Japanese man, but was born in China. He moved back to Japan when he was 9, and moved to Vancouver when he was 24. He's been in Vancouver for 40-ish years. He carries a Nikon Coolpix bridge camera with him, one of those point and shoots that look like DSLRs with huge zoom lenses. "Big zoom, bad IQ, lots of aberration. But cheap!"

We got off at the same stop, he looked back and waved at us with a smile, and shouted out a nice, loud "Bye!"

I feel like making an album of Hillary at the end of my trip...

Nice portrait, and an interesting historical vignette on Aihara. Love those sorts of encounters. Now days, I'm the old guy talking to people about their cameras.

Sorry about the Seattle mistake. I thought you mentioned the Space Needle, so I assumed.
