    Paris, Je t'aime!

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I have shared, but I have been busy with travel and photography, as always. I just returned from a trip to Paris with the M9 (primarily) and Fuji XPro-1 (as a back up), and present to you these captures for discussion, comments, constructive criticism, and critique, if you see fit. I got to be part of Bastille Day Festivities on hand in Paris...such a vibrant city, with both hope mixed with romance and despair...A potent elixit and concoction worthy of endless photographic opportunities and inspiratation....see, my words get flowery...so without much further adieu, the pics....

I hope that you are all well! All the best!

    Your friend, Ashwin

lots of great pics the last few days! wow!

here is something I found interesting, a shot of Me taken in 1970 (?) with my dads Zorki 4 and a Jupiter 8 50mm lens

and here is a shot on my birthday last week of my 5 year old with my Leica M8 , .....and the same KMZ Jupiter 8!

I was going to make a photoshop of them side by side, but this is fine I think

    re: Fun w/Digital M Images

Ashwin, those shots are all pretty amazing :P The second photo made me laugh as well! The one with the boys and the dog was pretty cute as well... the boy kinda matches the dog :P Some of those photos turned out so... 3D, like the second shot, the shot of the man in the Supreme hat in the middle of the street (didn't think Supreme stuff would spread to france) and the one of the man playing guitar, what lens were they taken with? So cool :P

Michael, beautiful photos and wonderful processing Looks like you had a good time!

Rob, cute photos... I think it's really great that you're now using your dad's old lens. My dad passed down a camera to me once... though we ended up selling it for my very first film camera. In some ways he got me started on the film game... and thus got me into rangefinder photography... but it's no where near the same as what you experienced with your dad and his lens! By the way, Hillary and I think you kinda look like the new Spiderman. We were watching it when we noticed he kinda looks like a younger version of you :P

A few shots from the weekend... I have more on film, but I need to get that developed :P

Hillary bought a little Chewbacca plushie that makes Chewie noises when you poke it's belly :P I think she loves it more than she loves me

NIce pix, Patrick. What kind of noises do you make when she pokes your belly? Maybe that's the problem.

Ashwin - inspiring stuff. Truly! Patrick - I always always enjoy your photos...so much good stuff in this forum.

I've got a couple more from the trip this weekend to share!

A little more contrasty (a lot more, actually) than my typical BW conversions, but I kind of like it here..

one more tonight...more typical of my black and white processing. I'm still getting used to the digital workflow with the Leica.

Michael: Very nice work. I think I prefer the second type of b/w processing. BTW, what hexagonal bokeh? I never made it past the distracting foreground.

Matt: Great to have you post here again. Excellent set. I love the motorcycle shot. (Nice SP, btw.)

Rayyan: I really like the feel of that shot. Great catch.

Lloyd, that must be the problem! I do believe I make the same sounds as chewie when she pokes my belly though... I'm incredibly ticklish. She usually wakes me up by tickling me... 'cause I won't get up any other way :P

Michael, your photos make me wanna put my summitar to use... I'll be sure to mount that the next time I go out :P Though I don't get along with the focal length... 28 and I are better friends :P

Great photo Rayyan :P I always try to get minimalist portraits like that... but I can't ever seem to do it... guess I gotta keep trying!

Downstairs, I love the work you do with your M9... You've got an eye for composition that I wish I had, and a knack for editing these photos to perfection :P Looking forward to more!

A roll from last week... we took a trip down to Granville Island, Hillary's favourite spot in Vancouver! There were a few buskers there that moved around the island and performed at different designated spots throughout the day. There was also a market which sold lots of fresh foods and handmade items. We bought a few pounds of fudge and brought it home for her family The docks were my favourite bit of the island though. We bought a small little lunch at the market and brought it out to the docks facing the Downtown skyline... it was really relaxing :P

    re: Fun w/Digital M Images

Great photos as always Moh That last photo made me laugh.. but scared me a little at the same time!

Michael, amazing photo it's got such a warm feel to it!

Heres a little bit of good and bad news...

Bad news... my 50/2 Summitar seems to be dying on me. It doesnt seem to be focusing properly all the time (sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt... but I know 100% that I'm focusing right). I guess that's what I get for buying a garbage-condition lens. I'm starting my hunt for a replacement 50... with my eyes on a 50/2.8 elmar

Good news... sort of... is that if someone's looking for a beater 50, I have no use for it anymore... I don't really know what I'm going to do with it yet, but I'm most likely going to put it up in the classifieds for a low low price once I find a good replacement 50. When it feels like focusing, the lens makes beautiful images. It should hold up fine as long as you don't collapse it. If you're inclined to fixing lenses... you might be able to restore it

I'll come to a decision soon, but I figured I'll let you guys know first. If anyone has any suggestions as to what I should to with it, or a deal on a 50mm... I wouldnt mind a nice little PM

Hey peoples, If I were to purchase a 'M' series, which M has the greatest value (not necessarily the best M but the one that delivers the most punch for the buck...?)

Hi Gary. In my answer I'll assume you're talking about the digital M, and say that while the M8 is a fine camera, and can be had for reasonable prices these days, it is also a little fiddly, in that you need UV/IR filters on the lenses for most things, it is not full frame, and only 10 megapixel, which these days is smallish.etc. Still, I've had three of them, and still have one. I like it particularly for black and white, but it is an all around fine camera. I recently spent 10 days in Iceland, and the M8 was the only camera I took with me.

Rumor has it that there may be something new on the horizon in the digital M line, and it will be interesting, but even with that possibility, and despite the fine qualities of the M8, I think that if I could only have one camera, the M9 is really the one I would want.

In the film Ms, I love the M6, but have long been tempted by the M7 and the latest MP.

Don't know if this helps. Good luck.

Thanks Lloyd, I was wondering about the difference between the 8 and the 9. I prefer the ease of digital over the romance of film.

MIchael: Fun pix. It is tough duty for sure. (Almost as much so as raising them! )

Rie: Cute kiddo!! Thanks for sharing. Love the way that 35 FLE renders too.
