Rob, nice first shots! I have a tough time understanding why some people struggle to fall in love with the M8/M9. For me, after looking at the first few test shots of my family, I was hooked!

At the risk of over-sharing... or have I already pass that point? Here are some more from Vegas with the venerable 50'Lux.

This is the lens that has the focal length increased for close-up/wide-open work.

Retow: The Eiger North Face looks scary to me! We were in Grindelwald, several years ago, but the weather wasn't this nice.
Patrick: It looks like you all had fun in Seattle (except for the mugging). Great photos.
Andrew: More excellent photos from Shanghai! I esp. like the first one with the 'Mao' statue (why does he look proportionately smaller then the soldiers?)
Woody: Really like the streetcar from Milan. Hard to get that 'filmic' look, anyway, but film.
Andrew: Thanks for your kind sentiment.
David: I like the 2nd shot of the pool with context and the 'ribbon' of people.
Matt: Beautiful images and tone. Like from an old Western (except, the first, of course).
Patrick: Always cool photos of Hillary!
Gary: Slight color cast. Which side is North?
    Lloyd: 'Camera porn', yes, indeed!
    Jono: Nice portrait; skeptical look?
Robert: Cool airplane stuff! Is the 6th photo, the Tiger moth?
Mohammad: Thanks! I wasn't sure if i'd offend anybody here?
Mohammad: Brilliant portraits. Did you get 'caught', or did they know in advance? The second one's my favorite.
Steve: I like the image and timing of the 1st.
    Bob: Lovely photos. Congratulations!
    Patrick: Always a vicarious journey!
Ashwin: Nothing to fault with your shots!
    Robert: Nice cast!
Robert: Great angle and composition on the plane!

Well, since, I'm waiting for an HVAC repairman (8-noon window!), I'll continue on.
Jason: Great stuff! Esp. your daughter.
Gary: Clams in Alberta? The second shot makes me want to take a drive up to the Mtns.
Patrick: The guy's a fireworks expert photog! Does Hillary ever frown?
Michael: Nicely done. I like that last shot, too.
    Michael: Great second set!
David: Vegas!....Vegas! I like the last shot of 'Rome'.
David: More Vegas! I like the second shot with the flowers.
    Speaking of Vegas...where's DavidE been?
    Michael: Just what Lloyd said!
Victor: I like the first shot!
David: The last, 'Leaving Las Vegas' is my favorite.
Lloyd: Excellent! I still love the 'signature' of that lens.
Robert: But, is it 'safe at any speed'? don't get too close.
Robert: Always good to look back for 'gems' like this.
David: 1st and 3rd. Vegas in the abstract and obscure works for me.
Brian: Beautiful portrait. Another lens to investigate.
Robert: Like the 2nd shot and the tone of the 3rd.
David: Great composition and tone (even if it was Las Vegas!)
Matt: You should come around here more often! Good stuff, and. you wouldn't always be so far behind!
    Robert: Thanks for the info.

Andrew, I'm always a bit embarrassed when I see Chinese panties hanging on the line, but it doesn't seem to bother anyone here. Can you imagine this in the West? I know some American ladies that if they hung their panties on the line the whole street might sail away...

Hi Stephen, I have a lightroom export preset for web sharing with max long edge 800px. However, I'm thinking of changing it to 1000, since most people have higher resolution monitors now. Personally, I think 800px max is good enough for portraits, but for landscape/architecture, it needs to be bigger for the full "effect". Nice shot with the hyperprime!

edit: I just noticed his "belt"!

    re: Fun w/Digital M Images

Thanks David, I will try your recommended settings. This farmer works a small plot of land near my apartment, and I always give him a smoke when I see him. His belt is also not for "show", as the culture here is to waste nothing and use whatever works while spending as little as possible. I honestly have never seen a more frugal people than the rural Chinese in this Tujia minority region of Laifeng.

As for the Hyperprime, well I have always been a fan of it's optical properties when properly calibrated and not falling apart. This shot is from my third example, before the lens started shedding the coatings on the aperture blades and internal lens barrel and filling the lens with debris. I do prefer the bokeh of the Noctilux 0.95, as I think it is rather swirly and busy here.

So many great images being posted as usual and the quality of most is simply astonishing, both from an artistic as well as technical point of view.

Ashwin, your shot of the Taj (which I've seen previously) is one that I love. It reminds me of a movie set (on location) whereby the "extras" and crew are milling around waiting for filming of the action to begin. It's a look to the Taj I've haven't seen quite this way, where so often it's basically the same familar shot.

    Extremely nice everyone!

I don't suppose it's too much to ask for those people to get out of the shot? From what I read, it's impossible to get a shot of the the Taj without people around since so many people visit it from open til close. Ashwin, you've really been around! If you don't mind me asking, what's your wide angle lens of choice? It's been on my mind lately.

    Hi David,
I have 2 ultrawide lenses, the 24 lux and the 21 Super elmar. Both are awesome, though the lux is magic...however, it's much bigger. For travel or practical use, I'd recommend either the 21 or 24 super elmars (plus their finders)...just depends on how wide you wish to go...both are fantastic! The Taj is a challenge...to get anything unique...I travel as much as I can, which is quite a bit LOL...the past few years have seen New Zealand, Vietnam, Egypt, India, Argentina and Uruguay, and Paris...plus all of the usual U.S. stops

David, Like the abstract nature of image one

Brian, any chance that you could post some more from the summarit? I have a chance to buy a clean copy and it would be nice to see more images from you! Was your lens modified for close up work?

Robert, wonderful images of the New Yorker, your 50mm Rigid? renders beautifully! Nicely done!

Matt, looks like a nice time in Hawaii? I am not sure why Mao was shorter...

Stephen, living in China, you are a patient man! Hubei province looks to be a fascinating region, I look forward to more of your images!

Aswin Was your trip to Egypt pre or post revolution? If it was post, did you have any issues? I like the Taj images, a very cool place!

Terrific portrait, and I appreciate your explanation below. Welcome, and I'm looking forward to much more!

As for uploading, I've found 1024 on the long side, at a resolution of 72dpi works best for me.

Way too many super photos to comment on individually.
I think it's getting to be time to start putting together the GetDPI M Book.

(I'd include all of GetDPI but then the book would become too heavy to lift!) :-)

Fun set, Matt. Love the onions shot in particular. You have a way with markets!

    Lloyd: Thanks!
Andrew: I love the context and detail in your Shanghai images! The second one's my favorite. An empty lane with a canopy of wires and clothes overhead.
Stephen: Nice portrait; slightly 'blank' look.
Ashwin: Nice! Re-visiiting a few folders, myself to see what i missed the other ten times through. I like the last one with it's shadows.
Ashwin: Beautiful, skillfully done, image of the Taj. The ribbon of people add to, and, not detract from the view.
    Ashwin: Handsome couple!
Andrew: Thanks! My wife had a conference and I tagged along.
Andrew: Love the bike and the woman's look in the last one!
Woody: Nicely seen. The colors and the DOF are great. What plant is it?
Ashwin: Great shots of a couple of the Market 'standard' characters. Love the guitar (the bird man's too weird for me; although it's a great photo).
Charles: Thanks! Nice portrait; and, I like the color and 'rendering' of that lens.

    Cheers, Matt

    re: Fun w/Digital M Images

We've been having a lot of trouble with our internet lately :\ Can't seem to open up photo/video heavy pages without hour long waits. I can barely view this thread without an error message popping up!

Just wanted to say, great photos Sorry I can't personally extend my compliments.

I shall reply soon with photos
