    re: Fun w/Digital M Images

Here are three photos from my Photokina trip in September.

The first is of photographer Nick Ut from Leica's "Das Wesentliche" event. The second one is from a street in Cologne. And the third is from the Melaten Cemetery in Cologne.

All three were shot with an M9 and 50mm Summilux.

    Love that one, Cenek!

Great stuff, David. Nick Ut. Man, seeing him conjures memories of some iconic images.

Thanks Lloyd. I was impressed with Nick Ut as a human being, as much as I was with his photos. A great man and a great photographer.

Ashwin, your first set are superb! Also, I am really liking the noise in your 2nd set, may I ask what iso did you shoot these?

David, good work with the 18mm. Its a super lens!

DavidE, we must have walked past each other, as I was at the event as well! To bad, we could have chatted.

    Mohammad, great stuff as usual!

Sent my 90 Elmarit-M mounting flange for 6-bit milling a week ago and just got it back today (Thank you, John!). Went out to the backyard for some test shots. The sun was hanging low... I tried to catch some flare, and boy, did I get it:

Charles: None of the engineers that I know look like her?
David: Great portrait of Nick Ut, and, it's nice to see you looking up again.
Godfrey: Excellent composition! You first look at the painting and then are slowly drawn to her eye.
Andrew: Nice color and B & W photos at the bird market. Your pp is always brilliant!
Ceh: Exceptional capture of the little girl. Nice balance between her light colors and the guy's dark...
Mohammad: Cool shots. Esp. the Oktoberfest Marathon (?).
Ash: Nice shots of Jenn. I would have sold you my copy of that Shatner album?

    Thanks Matt!

And now onwards ... I switched to the Nokton 50/1.5 last evening. That little 90mm lens is fantastic, but the FoV is tighter than I prefer for day to day use. I also cleared the card in the camera and recharged the battery.

Let's see what the next batch of photos brings to bear. :-)

BTW: even though I haven't commented much, there is just an amazing volume of cool photos in this thread. Bravo to all o' ye!

Ashwin and Matt, love your photos with the M-M. I was worried I wouldn't be able to process them as I would like, but you're showing me it can be done.

Mohammad, wow, terrific images from the Renaissance Faire. My favorite is "The beauty under the veil." Love the eyes.

Andrew, those are amazing photos from Hong Kong. I especially like the processing. It's spot on. Sorry we missed each other at the Leica event.

Thanks Andrew, Mohammad, and Matt for the kind words and encouragement.

A few more with the M9.

The first is from the Ginza district in Tokyo. It was shot with an 18mm Super-Elmar.

The second is from the Melaten Cemetery in Cologne. It was shot with a 50mm Summilux.

And the third is from the Cosmopolitan in Vegas. I used a 24mm Summilux on that one.

    re: Fun w/Digital M Images

    Hey guys

Taking a break from a rather... unproductive day today. Hillary and I (more her than I) have been really stressed out lately and it's taken quite a toll on our general level of happiness. Our latest worry is whether or not we'll find a job for our co-op term within the next two months. We originally wanted to work in London, but the process of getting a work visa there is a little too complicated to be done within the time we have. We're hoping to land a job in an Architecture firm somewhere in north america so we've been contacting everyone we know/worked for for the past week or so. The issue is that with all the school work we have, we have no time left to complete our portfolios... a huge requirement in an application to almost any Architecture firm world-wide.

Schoolwork aside... here are a few photos from our (extremely unorganized) school trip to New York City

We stayed in New York from Oct. 12-15. We were housed at the YMCA Hostel by Central Park. The place was rather dirty... reminded me a lot of Hong Kong housing, cockroaches running around, shared washrooms that always smelled kinda funny (or like pee). Good thing we didn't stay in the hostel for long

I found NYC to be a bit too big, busy, and rushed to be fully enjoyable. I never got to stop and fully take in my surroundings. I was always pushed around by people trying to get to places... it was a pain. The city felt claustrophobic: the skyscrapers blocked out the sun, you're always surrounded by strangers, the streets are filled with cars. Though, when you're with all your friends... you don't really care too much.

    A Street Market in SoHo

I saw this girl sketching a statue in the MET. She was really pretty... and I thought it was kinda cool how she just stopped to sketch out something she liked, so I asked her if I could photograph her.

Cloud City... a really cool installation at the MET. It was on the roof garden of the MET, about 5-6 storeys above ground. You were allowed inside, but only with a certain number of people at a certain time. The structure's floor shook a bit with every step you took :P

Fishing by the Staten Island Ferry

These were taken ontop of Highline, a public park that used to be an old subway bridge :P Very cool!

    And... Morning Hillary

Great set, Patrick. The first shot of the street market was my favorite, had me linger for a while just to take in the entire scene.

    Thanks guys

David, yeah that street market photo had a lot to take in... that's the case with most of NY. Very very busy!

Moh, great set from the faire I've never been to one... but it seems like it'd be a really nice place to be XD

Rayyan, that's a beautiful image with beautiful grain
