    re: Fun with the New Leica M

    I went out yesterday to Randall's Island with two bodies (an MM and an M) and three lenses, a 50 lux, a 35 lux fle and a 21 SEM. It was a gray day with a high bright sky, a poor day for landscape. I went intending to shoot mostly black and white but also got a couple of colors. I'm posting edited results in the following posts.

    re: Fun with the New Leica M

    Some thoughts. Both cameras are wonderful. The M240 is delicious to shoot with. The MM's advantage in resolution is evident in the full-sized files. The MM's files are easier to work with if you want black and white - it was a fair amount of work in post to get decent B&W out of the M240 although I'm certain that as I gain experience with it and settle on a B&W workflow with some presets it will be easier.

    Several hundred frames with no focus or exposure issues. It was easy moving back and forth and the technical stuff is second nature at this point.

    Two bodies and three lenses look like my walk around kit for now.

    Hey gang, I've been busy prepping for my first solo show, so I haven't had much time to be online or to shoot new photos. But, here's a handful from a couple of walks-

    HI There
    This is the new member of our family - it was shot with my 50 'lux wide open (the lovely 50 'cron is now on it's way back to Leica )

    @jono

    She is really a beauty! Would love one as well but my wife will kill me!

    WRT Summilux, this is my favorite Leica 50mm lens, fast when you need it, but still small and lightweight.

    HI Woody
    Yes indeed - lots of interesting things. First of all that wolves do not bark in the wild - it's behaviour that has been taken up to aid their integration with humans (and of course they ARE wolves).

    In this case, Matty has been reared by a couple who are really experienced breeders - but have not had a litter themselves. Basically they have kept stud dogs for years, and have been very much involved with showing and pedigree.

    They decided to start breeding themselves because they were unhappy with the direction the breed was going in England (getting smaller and with a dodgy temperament). They've imported dogs from France, and then combined with the best of british - but this was their first litter.

    . . . . Which means that the puppies have been really socialised - I visited twice, and they were allowed to mix with the other dogs - taken in the garden and allowed two rooms of the house, with almost constant attention. The result is a lovely self-confident and calm puppy - quite irresistible really!

    all the best

    @Woody:

    I gather you think the M240 is capable of good BW (certainly in your hands that is true)? Is your workflow in CS6 or are you using Silverefex? I don't have my M yet ("any day now") but Silverefex is pretty darn good with the M9 and I am really looking forward to it, learning curve or not.

    HI Alan
    I can't answer for Woody, but I've certainly found the black and white conversions in Aperture - and also in Silver Efexpro 2 to be excellent - better than those from the M9 (although not of course as good as the Monochrom files).

    Jono, are we to assume that this new cutie of yours is expected to go throuigh your usual winter initiation protocol required of all your dogs by enduring being covered with frozen ice balls as you so aptly displayed in a photo a couple months ago...and then model for photographs....LOL! If so, poor fella, doesn't know what he's in for. .

    Have fun with Maddy...it's a blast and I've been through it so many times. No doubt you'll leave your collection of old Leica camera straps scattered around for them to chew on!

    The highlight was a friend of one of the gamers was there and he recognised my camera, only the 3rd person in 2 years to do so, he is an amateur photographer who is into Nikons and also Film cameras too, we had a nice chat
