Leica Module R - what body to get ?

Hi there,

while my M9 and my lens setup satisfies what I need, I always had a curiosity with the R division of Leica.

I'm toying buying a R8 or R9 and slap a Module R Digital on it - for fun.

Few questions that I find conterversial information on the web :

- should I get a R8 or R9 ?
- some R8's cant be used ?
- do I need the motordrive to use the Module R ?
- what advantages a R9 will give vs a R8 ? R8's are half price

Your call. The R9 weighs a bit less, has a mode lock and allows high-speed flash sync. I've been using R8 bodies with the DMR with no problems aside from a sore shoulder.

No.

Ideally buy the DMR and body as a pair. At least then they should work together. Try and make sure you get at least two batteries with it. Each battery only lasts maybe 150 shots max. If you have two, then you can get each one recelled in due course whilst being abel to use the camera.
Personally, I have two DMRs, one with a R9 and one with a R8. I prefer the one with the R9
