Here are a number from today with my 1945 Carl Zeiss Jena 5cm f1.5 Sonnar. This is a remarkable lens and has spurred my interest in legacy glass. This is three frames stitched.

Those are magical, Ashwin. Wonderful to see how the special characteristics of the vintage glass come through on the MM.

Re: Fun with the Leica M Monochrom

Thanks Lloyd, and yes, vintage glass sings on the MM. I am aching to get my hands on a 35 mm f/2 Summicron V1, which is very highly regarded for BW work, to use on the MM, and will put that up against what I am seeing with the stellar Canon 35 mm f/2.8...but in general, older lenses seem to capture more DR (particularly in highlights and shadows, since mids are well represented, and I find these files easy to manipulate in LR4...

John's Canon 100 mm f/2 LTM is another perfect example of this...

These REALLY aren't helping my GAS. In the last two days I've finally bit the bullet and bought a 50 Summilux after passing on it for a while now as I was in a 35 mindset more this year. I also bought a Voigtlander 21/1.8 Ultron. Not too many samples online of the rendering but I was satisfied with what I saw for the price and if it's anything like the 35 Nokton II then I will be very happy with it. I'm looking forward to the MM when I can get around to getting one.

Love it...looks like Atlas or Tubbs.

Late Afternoon and an outing with the Monochrom.

Great start to a wonderful end of year and entry into the New Year.

The 18 SEM looks fabulous...I am leaning towards the 21, as the 24 seems a bit constricted with the MM.

I passed this gas station with toppled structure. The camera had a 75mm lens on it. But Woody had given me the stitching idea so I snapped away. Turning 35mm into large format is seductive. The jpeg is maybe too large but smaller and flickr does its sharpening thing.

Gary, I appreciate your comments, it reaffirms my untrained eye on B&W. I'm careful not to push the blacks too much, just enough to give the photos some punch.

Thanks also for all the "likes". Happy New Year!

Re: Fun with the Leica M Monochrom

Some thoughts regarding some of the recent postings with the MM....

Kurt....your MM images are a continuation of your excellent B&W imagery, regardless of the camera you use. The look and feel of Chicago really come through and since you've done a lot of B&W conversions with other cameras, I'll be interested in hearing your thoughts regarding the MM vs. your use of other camera files for conversion to B&W.

Dave, I find your post processing of your MM files both substantially different than most other posted MM images and most appealing. They seem to be a perfect fit for the kinds of images you've captured and give a quite varied and facinanting look of the Filipino culture. Looking forward to seeing more.

Ashwin, what can be said that hasn't already. The first thing I notice in most of your images, is a slice of everyday life, especially from those you know well. Although I am always interested in your analysis of the various classic lenses you've been testing on the MM...I alwasy come back for the imagy itself, more than anything else. Guess terms like warm, inviting and funny (brings a smile) come to mind, just to name a few
