Re: Fun with the Leica M Monochrom

I used my MM last month a lot but can not share any (other than this of a pro dancer). It still is very useful (in decent light) but that mega light monster Sony A7s found a lot more use because of everything.

More fun with my recently acquired MM v.1. First one is with a tabbed 50mm Summicron, the rest with v.4 35mm Sumicron.

Re: Fun with the Leica M Monochrom

When I sold my M9 kit a few years ago, the only M-mount lens I kept was the Voigtlander 25mm Snapshot, because I loved the focus click-stops. I wish more wides offered that feature. Now I'm starting to use it on the MM and think I'll really enjoy it. One below from the commute home on Friday. - John

Hard to see why when, even at f5.6, focus to infinity starts at 1.4 feet!

For those who like some flare.

Maybe my last MM shot for a while – I'm 'auditioning' the A7RII for BW.

Thank you, Kirk. That's a nice compliment. I thought of Hopper when I opened this file.

One of my aspirations (fantasies) as a street photographer has been to produce a photographic equivalent of Nighthawks. Not likely, I know, but one can dream.

I live near the Art Institute of Chicago where that painting lives when it's not on tour. Whenever I visit the museum I always stop by and marvel.

Thank you, Pete. Yes, it came together nicely for this one. I noticed the light on the door first and the sharp foreground shadow, and then the shadowed barber shop. It looked so theatrical. I waited and waited, shooting several shots of various passersby, but not really pleased with any. Fortunately the light remained when this guy stepped out of the barber shop for a smoke. I don't think I would have positioned him any differently if I were directing the scene myself. I really like the picture and am thrilled with the way the MM rendered it.
