Is the rangefinder on the leica M monochrom the same as on the film leica M? does the M monochrom and M 240 utilize an EVF and why?

M Monohcrm rangefinder is the same principle like a film M in regars of the rangefinder.
The M240 as well, except that the M240 frame lines are illuminated and can be set to either red or white.
On the M240 you can add an external EVF, on the MM not.
Why...I guess the idea is to be able to use R lenses and some people seem to like EVF for general use instead of a rangefinder. (I prefer rangefinder and OVF)

And the "why" part is that the M240 uses a CMOS sensor, which will not overheat as easily as a CCD, so the shutter may be left open allowing live view on the rear display and use of the EVF.
One small quibble about the rangefinder/viewfinder itself: the magnification will vary from that of the film M cameras, but otherwise it is the same, excepting the framelines of the M240.
