Hi everybody, just a quick poll here:
Choose 2, and only 2 lenses for Leica M that you would bring with you for a 3 month trip.

Your choice will be among 21mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm and 90mm.
What is your favourite combo and why? They can be whatever brand.

I think would leave with 35mm and 75mm.

Thanks for sharing!

No worries about weight or heft (so, I can take more!). Barring the 75/2 all are tiny. Have all filters for them (It is for MM).

I'd choose my Zeiss 25/2.8 and one of my 50's. I've dragged the heavy silver 90mm Elmarit a couple of times and barely used it.

Completely depends on where I'd be going but in general I agree the 21/24/25/28/35/50 and 75/90 is one of the most versatile lens pairs. Whether I was in the city or open country would kind of determine the short end. I a major city with wide streets I'd probably pick a fast 21-25mm and pair it with a 90mm lens. For somewhere with a lot of tight angles I'd probably go fast 21 and a 50.

I'd probably go 35/75 to be safe if I didn't do my scouting and crop as needed if I wasn't sure.

28 Cron and another 28 Cron as a backup ;)

OK, you gave constraints. 21 and 50. As wide as possible because you can't crop what isn't in the frame, and I can never focus anything longer than a 50 on a rangefinder.

As to not bore everyone with my crazy thoughts on travel lenses (because it really depends on the trip).. Let's just say 50APO + 21SEM (SEM rarely gets used unless I need a specific landscape or interior shot that the 50APO can't do).

If I were limited to 2, it would be either 35/50 or 28/35, depending on the lay of the land where I was going.

What I in fact do is take two bodies and three lenses: 28/35/50.

Hi,

Normally I'd go with a 35mm and 75mm but if shooting in fairly tight quarters, I'd opt for the 28mm (instead of the 35mm) just in case, and still stay with a 75mm, which can double as a somewhat normal lens as well as a short telephoto.
Again compromises often have to be made regardless of choice if restricted to only two lenses.

Went to France for two weeks last fall with 35mm FLE and 75mm Summicron. If I had to do it again, I'd still pick 35/75, but with Summarits instead.

If so limited when traveling I would take a 35mm FLE and 75mm f1.4 on two bodies. Indeed, this is what i carry most of the time. I find my most used focal length is 35mm, but like to minimise lens changes. Whenever possible I usually also carry a 24mm f3.4. and will add others as the need arise. If limited to the two and need to go wider I am quite happy to create panoramas, the software is so good now.

28mm Elmarit-M ASPH and 50mm Elmar-M in the summer - size over speed ; as compact as possible; great for walking about.
35mm Summilux ASPH and 50mm Summilux ASPH in the winter - speed over size ; more time indoors.

On my trip to England and the Isle of Man with the M9 in 2013, I carried 35/50/90. I made 817 exposures, split 251/508/58 respectively. Funny, I thought I had used the 90 a bit more than that.

But given that, I'd take the 35 and 50 mm lenses, and only carry the wider or longer focal lengths if the additional weight didn't bother me. Or, switch to the 28 and 50, for a wider-wide coupled with the favorite 50.

I recently ordered an Elmar-M 24/3.8 so I suspect my next kit for travel will be 24/3.8, 35/1.4, 50/1.5, and 90/4 ... all small, light, and handy except for the fast 50 (Nokton 50/1.5 ASPH (LTM)). Although I might leave the 90 home if I know I'm going to use it so little. (That's hard. An ideal travel kit in the past was the Leica CL with 40, 90, and 21mm lenses.)
